| There is a gal in Ashburnham, Kathy Rowe who sells spices in bulk and
at very reasonable prices. I'm not sure of her telephone number, but
it's in the book. I have bought spices from her before and been
satisfied. Can't remember the name at the moment.
Also, while we are on the subject, I have a good amount of fresh sage
in the garden, does anyone out there in cooks land want some? Contact
me off line at WMOIS::BOHNET_B

3204.5 | Guinea Pepper or Grains of Paradise | RANGER::CANNOY | True initiation never ends. | Mon Nov 18 1991 16:22 | 14 |
| I am looking for a special spice. I got this from a friend who gets it
from a wholesaler somewhere in the northwest of the US, Oregon or
Washington. My impression is that the place was owned by a person with
an oriental surname.
The spice is called Grains of Paradise or Guinea Pepper. It is really
good. I got the impression is was an old spice, i.e. known about for
centuries which had fallen out of flavor and is consequently hard to
find.
Anybody else ever use this or hear of it or know or any bulk
wholesalers in the Northwest?

Try 'ATTAR' in New Ipswich NH... information should have the phone
number. They deal primarily with bulk mailorder, but do have a
small retail store (open only M-F, though). Best place I've found
to buy spices, herbs, essential oils, potporri (sp?), etc...

3204.7 | Mushroom Powder? | MCIS5::CORMIER | | Tue Nov 19 1991 08:43 | 7 |
| Anybody know where I can buy "mushroom powder"? I have a recipe that
calls for 1 teaspoon, and can't find it in my local supermarkets
(Worcester, MA). It's a low-fat recipe, so I think it probably needs
all the flavor it can get. IF you spot it in your market somewhere,
please let me know. Anywhere from Littleton to Worcester would be OK.

| They have powder in a little mushroom shaped shaker. I think it is porcini
mushrooms.
You could buy dried mushrooms and put them in a blender or coffee grinder
until they are powdered, too. I use this technique when making mushroom
pasta.
