3079.0. "COOKS Get Together" by ICS::ANDERSON_M () Thu Jun 13 1991 15:28

I live in Central Mass and was wondering if anyone in the New England
area would consider getting together to meet each other and exchange
recipes/ideas, either after work or on a Saturday afternoon/evening.

I contribute to another Notesfile and have arranged a couple of get
togethers after work that have been quite successful. I would be
happy to organize something - if anyone is interested.

I have a couple of ideas about arranging something - and would welcome
    any suggestions.

What I thought we could do is meet someplace that is convenient for all
and either exchange recipes - perhaps arrange a big get together where
we could kind of have a cook-off. Each person bringing a
    dish/speciality etc.!

Obviously we could get to meet one anther and take it from there. Like
I said, any suggestions are welcome.

Want to meet the end of June - or middle of July? I know vacations are
a factor here - but the earlier we meet then we can plan something for
    the Fall/holiday season.

Sounds like fun... let me know the where, when, what-am-I-to-bring,
etc. We could even plan for far out (Labor Day) and have it (the
    holiday) be a theme...?

How nice of you to offer your place! Sounds good to me...now all we
have to do is figure out the date and time. I have a couple of people
that sent me notes offline that want to be included. I will keep track
    of that list.

One thing we should establish (this could be touchy) do we make it just
us (as in DEC employees) or 'us' and husbands/wives/significant others,
and/or include children. Seeing as it is YOUR place - why don't you
set the parameters. Also we should decide as to whether or not we will
barbeque. Don't want to make this so extravagant that you'll want to
    back out..... ;^)

We can all bring 'our' special dish and divey up the soda, paper
    plates, cups, silverware, napkins, tableclothes...etc!

Why don't I start by offering to bring the chinet plates and paper
cups. Now I have to decide on what to bring. If you want - I can also
    keep track of the menu.

    Thanks for offering!

    Just thought of something else.

I know quite a few people who do not necessarily cook a lot (or are
beginners and don't have a 'specialty') but read this notesfile.
I don't want anyone to think that they couldn't attend this event
    because they can't cook.

So, they could bring soda, napkins, etc. and we can all sample food,
exchange recipes, meet one another and have a swell time.

As I said in the basenote - any suggestions are welcome.

3079.11Are you giving cookery lessions?MILPND::VICKERSCARLHA VICKERSTue Jun 18 1991 15:0622
Marilyn

Just checked into this notes file and read your note about getting
together. I wondered what the purpose was, i.e. I get together with
a friend once a month and we show each other how to cook a particular
food or ethnic food group, that we know the other doesn't know.
We have had a lot of people who have been interested to participate,
because they could not cook.

If this is your intent you need a fairly large kitchen, and good
organization, because the more that attend, the more it can get
out of hand.

Drop me a line or give me a call....223-6639. I have been considering
offering the classess but my kitchen is very small,i.e. a gallary kitchen.

I live in Groton, MA. My specialities are Indian, Thai, Mexican...
I'm also trying to specialize in quick meals for during the week.
