| Every year since my wife has been a mother (11), we all have taken her
to the beach and either cooked or bought lobsters. As the kids (4)
got/get older it becomes easier. With the lobsters we have cole slaw,
pb sandwiches, ring dings, chips, champagne, lemonade, and lots of fun.
My wife loves the beach, and it starts off the summer on a good note.

3016.5 | Spring fruit salad | WORDY::STEINHART | Pixillated | Wed May 01 1991 14:18 | 13 |
| To me, nothing's better this time of year than a fresh fruit salad of
strawberries and whatever other wonderful things are now available.
Add a splash of liquer (sp?) such as Grand Marnier if you want to dress
it up, plus maybe some fresh whipped cream.
I remember bringing my Mom breakfast in bed. She was very nice about
it considering it's not her "thing". Now that I'm a Mom, I could also
pass on the breakfast in bed routine. Why do freelance writers with
nothing better to say, continue to advise kids that it's what Mom
really wants? I think I'll be happy if I just don't have to wash any
dishes for one day.

3016.6 | fresh fruit syrup for waffles | TYGON::WILDE | why am I not yet a dragon? | Wed May 01 1991 18:41 | 18 |
| Mix a simple sugar syrup of 2 cups water to 2 cups sugar...bring to a simmer
over medium heat to thoroughly dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat and
add a dash of fresh lemon juice (or more of a dash of fresh orange juice) to
taste. Cut up small chunks of any/all of the following:
fresh strawberries
fresh/canned peaches
fresh peeled kiwi fruit
cantaloup balls
seedless grapes (whole)
and turn into the syrup. Store in refrigerator overnight to blend flavors
and cool thoroughly. On mother's day, make waffles and serve the fruited
syrup on the side as a topping. Decorate with fresh, sweetened heavy cream
that has been whipped to soft peak stage. One little secret: add a dash
of ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and a little sugar to the waffle batter.
Don't forget the rose.
