If you're making these from a box mix, can't you measure out half
or whatever portion of the mix you need for the cupcakes and just
make those up separately?

| One box mix doesn't have enough for cupcakes AND a cake. It's
either 12 (sometimes 6) cupcakes or one cake.

| How about baking them at the same time, and freezing one? It stays
fresher that way, and you wouldn't have to bake twice.

The type of mix I have makes 24 cupcakes or 2 8" cakes. So, I'll
be making 12 cupcakes and 1 8" cake.
