2920.0. "Sandwich maker" by WR2FOR::ABELLAR_MA () Tue Feb 19 1991 23:48

Just picked up a swandwich maker, but when I got it home there was no
instruction or recipe book enclosed. Was wondering if anyone out there
has one or any recipes to share. It is a grill that closes, you
supposedly put tortillas, bread and fillings, then put the top piece down
and it cuts the sandwichs in half and closes them . I don't know if
    anyone is familiar with them?
                                     Thanks,Mary

I have one called the Snack Master. You can make any kind of sandwich
in it. It's good for making breakfast sandwiches too. Put in your
bread and put some egg on top with ham and cheese or whatever you like.
There great for making pizza pockets, too. You can make sandwiches
with whatever left-overs you have in the fridge.

I also have made fruit pockets with fruit pie filling on bread, then
sprinkle with powdered sugar. I wouldn't recommend making these with
very juicy filling, as it tends to ooze out when you close the lid.

Quesadillas are also good in these.

Really almost anything works. You can even make biscuits in about 2
    minutes. I really like mine.

2920.2What a wonderful little machine...DELNI::HAWKINSWed Feb 20 1991 08:5825
I've had one since just before Christmas and I think my daughter uses
    it every day.

We make pancakes, french toast, fruit filled, grilled ham & cheese,
tuna melts, and the most famous ** CLEAN OUT THE REFRIGERATOR **
    sandwich.

We didn't get a direction booklet either so just experimented. I'm not
sure if you're suppose to, but we butter the side of the bread that
hits the machine. Not a lot of butter but a little.

Pita bread with spaghetti sauce, mozarrella, mushrooms, and sliced
meatballs makes a wonderful (quick) meal. Another favorite of mine
is peanut butter and banana or peanut butter and jam. My daughter uses
a lot of steamed veggies and cheese mixtures.

The machine seals the edges (if you don't use too much liquid fixings)
and the insides to the sandwich are VERY hot so be careful with that
    first bite.

The options are numerous so just have fun using your imagination.

Is this the device that I've seen the guy from "Mr. Belvedere" advertising on
those 1/2 hour commercials?

The "TV-AD" Snakmaster was the popularizer of this type of device,
but there are many versions now available in stores.

Lechmere Sales carries the Maxim and the Oster for $40 and both
    	come with extensive directions/recipes books.

I sometimes think I have what I call "selective dyslexia." I read the
above sentence and thought it was talking about a Snakemaster. Yuk!

A magazine I have at home (I think it's Hanover House...) has two for
$7.88 or $9.99 or something like that. Cheap, anyway.

We use ours all he time.

We use it to make Tuna Melts, Pizza Sandwiches (spread pizza sauce
on bread, add any pizza topping you like, and cheese and cover with
another piece of bread and cook about 2 min..yum!)

    I wouldn't recommend the cinnamon rolls...They take the Poppin-Fresh
Cinnamon rolls and put 2 on their sides in each sandwich space. They
cook about 2 min. The rolls come out so tiny and you actually get
more and bigger rolls when you use the oven.

Also another great one is to get the Jiffy Cornbread mix. Make the
batter and pour it into the sandwhich slots. Cut a hotdog in half
and put it in the center. Close and cook about 2-3 min. The bread
rises around the hotdog and you have little corn dogs.

Look at this add closely... I recently saw an ad like this,
and found out you had to cook the fool thing on your stove top.

I've been trying to convince my wife we should get one, but
she keeps telling me... "You've got enough gadgets in this
house, we don't need any more".. :-(

Oh well, I'll keep wearing her down.. She bought be one of
the hand held blenders for my birthday, and it works great..

	Make GREAT Frozen Strawberry diaquaris..

Are those the electric ones or the ones you use on the top of the
stove or over a campfire? The least expensive I've seen any
electric brand has been at Rich's. They are on sale for $20 this
    week.

Due to the fact that today is my last day at DEC, and my agency does
not have another job lined up, I imagine my little machine will be
getting lots of use at lunchtime.

I want to thank all of you for the wonderful ideas I'll picked up while
    reading this Notes file.

    Toodles...
