2277.0. "Vacuum Sealers" by WFOVX5::KEYWORTH () Tue Feb 27 1990 12:08

Well I've looked around in the file but couldn't find anything related
to this, but if someone else can redirect me please do so.

I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with, or knowledge
of the Vacuum Sealers that are on the market today. I have heard
of two. One is the Foodsaver marketed by The Professional Marketing
Group out of Seattle Washington. Their add has been on tv and the
unit sells for about $299 plus more for the attachments for sealing
canning jars or the four different sizes of canisters they make
themselves. The other is made by Burpee and while it doesn't seem
to have the extra attachments the main unit sells for about $40.
The Foodsaver seems like it might be a better quality machine. I've
heard that it can also be purchased at a store called Cosco (sp?)
for about $275 with all the attachments.

    Any comments?
    John

I would also like to know if anyone has one of these vacuum sealers
and what they think of it. I believe they are ~$280 at BJ's in
    Westboro MA.

I was looking to buy a vacuum system that will seal food
and other things. I saw it a few years back and I am unable to
find a store that carrys it. This is the one that will do bags
as well as canning jars. I have looked at note #2277 and will
be checking out those places any other help would be appriec-
    ieated. Thanks

I saw one in Caldor's before Christmas. I know it did bags
but didn't investigate enough to find out if it also did
    jars.

2277.5where to find the Foodsaver IICOOKIE::LBROWNSat Feb 29 1992 09:1610
I bought the Foodsaver II (discounted by $50 and with a free canister) at Best
Products in Colorado Springs. I've also seen them at Service Merchandise. You
might look for those stores in your area. Nationwide Marketing, which sells
the Foodsaver can be reached at 1-800-777-5452. They can tell which stores in
your area carry them.

The Foodsaver (plus one other product on the market whose name I don't
remember) are the only ones considered "commercial quality" vacuum sealers
according to a magazine article I read. It's been well worth the price, both a
time and money saver.

Thanks all .....I found it in Seatle Washington through the
Proffessional Marketing Group. It was $299.00 plus shipping and
handling ($10) They have three models starting at around $199.
The one for $299 does everything for you it is totaly hands off.

There's a cheaper one available from Deni...Just call directory
assistance, and ask for their 800 number. I just saw this on
a TV infomercial. It even sucks the air out prior to sealing...

2277.8Vacuum Packing questionsTANRU::CHAPMANFri Mar 18 1994 11:5921
I've just invested in the FoodSaver system -- the cost was $179.00 with
1 canister, jar sealer, bags. It is wonderful. Last night I vacuum
sealed everything in my house (almost) - an open box of raisins, open
brown sugar, a canister full of fresh spinach, nuts, a salmon steak and
two ham hocks (for the freezer).

The FoodSaver is going to enable me, I hope, to save big $$$ on my
grocery bills because I intend to buy more family packs -- which is
extremely difficult to do for 1 person. Vacuum sealing steaks will
keep them up to 5 years in the freezer -- chicken 1 year. At any rate
this is what the literature states. Does anyone have any experience in
    this area?

Freezing vacuum packed veggies and fruits in season will hopefully save
me even more. Any ideas? My directions say that the vacuum bag that I
freeze say peas in may be used as a boil-in-bag. The directions for
freezing fruit, like peaches, is to slice the peach - put it on a
cookie sheet, freeze it and then vacuum pack it -- any helpful hints
    about adding juice?

    Thanks in advance.
