| If she got ten good years of use out of the utensils...I think it is
time to replace them! A company can easily get out of business, can
move, etc, etc. in a period of 10 years. There are tons of cookware in

| I've read a few articles connecting alzheimer's disease with aluminum
absorbed by the body. The article I distinctly remember was in a
reputable publication, "Bottom Line." (Bottom Line basically
summarizes the conclusions of various articles and publishes them with
their original sources cited. What I'm trying to say is that it wasn't
some offbeat muckraking article.) One of their recommendations was that
you not cook with aluminum cookware, since traces of aluminum can be
introduced into the food that way. If you've ever cooked tomato sauce
in an aluminum pot, you can see what I mean -- it's nice and shiny
after the acid in the tomatoes has gotten to the surface of the pan.
I don't know whether or not this concerns you, but I'd stay away from
aluminum cookware and switch to some company called "Club Stainless" or
"Club Cast Iron" or "Club Completely Coated with Something Not
Aluminum." ;^)

2273.5 | thanks for concerns, but.... | ASHBY::ORTH | Eat any good books lately? | Fri Mar 02 1990 10:39 | 16 |
| Although I appreciate everyone's concern for the health issues
regarding cooking in aluminum, my in-laws are in no way able to afford
a completely new set of cookware at this point in their lives
(retirement is not always just easy living), whether or not their
cookware has served them well for 10 years. MY concern is for the
safety regarding dropping a full pot of boiling liquid on legs, feet,
etc., because of failing handles. I'm sure they are being extra
cautious (the old hand-in-oven-mitt-under-bottom-of-pot routine), but new
handles would be best, and that they could hopefully afford. I suggested
she call the 800 directory assistance to see if they have a number on file
for the company...not sure if that was succesful since I haven't spoken to
her since then.
Again, thanks to all for their aluminum concerns, but still would like
the address, if someone has it.

Dave-
Have you checked some cooking-supply stores? Perhaps you could
find a place that carries Club and ask the store for their address.
I too have Club that's about 15 years old. My originals have
black handles that are out of some hard plastic-like material.
I subsequently bought some that had wooden handles. You might
be able to order either.

2273.7 | I May have a lead for you (if you haven't found the information already)!!
| VISUAL::FLMNGO::WHITCOMB | | Fri Jun 22 1990 17:41 | 9 |
| One of my brothers recently borrowed a Popular Club catalog from a woman he
works with, and while looking through it, I noticed that they sell Club
Aluminum cookware! The manufacturer's address was not listed in the catalog,
but possibly if you write directly to Popular Club, they may be able to supply
that information to you. I didn't think at the time to copy down the address
but maybe someone in this file would have a catalog and wouldn't mind posting
the address for you.
Good luck tracking it down, and please keep us posted with your progress!
