2258.0. "Ham: Pepper Cured Ham" by LAGUNA::TODORA () Wed Feb 14 1990 14:29

    Looking for a Smithfield Black pepper cured ham, or a Red Pepper cured
    ham from Virgina. My grandmother use to get them outside
    Charlettesvile VA. I have not been able to fine where I can order one.
    I know that you can get these ham on the East Coast but don't where to
    order. I sure miss fryed Ham, fried apples, Buttermilk biscuits with
    southern sorgum malasses.

2258.1call the factory?WAGON::ST_ONGEThu Feb 15 1990 08:476
    I'd call the factory. It is located right in Smithfield, VA. I drove
    through their last summer. It's huge! I'm sure directory assistance
    could provide you with the number for Smithfield Ham. I believe the
    area code is 804.

    Good luck.

2258.4Is it a dried/cured ham?WOODRO::RUSSOFri Feb 23 1990 12:305
    Is this the same type of ham that is dried and smoked? I saw the
    Frugal Gourmet prepare a ham by soaking it in water several times
    and then roasting it. It looked delicious.

    This ham is cured in Black or Red Pepper, I don't believe it is smoked.
    I normaly cut it up and fry it in a black skillet and make Red Eye
    Gravey. You can soak and bake it also it is great.
