2216.0. "APPLE: Apple Fiber" by CSOA1::WIEGMANN () Mon Jan 22 1990 07:51

I came across something new I hadn't seen mentioned in this file
    - apple fiber. I've been using it for a month or so now, and really
like it, so thought I'd post the info here.

16 ounce box costs about $2.50; they do mail order, but I don't
know if the price is any different.

This info is from the box: "Apple fiber is manufactured by removing
the juice from the apple by a natural pressing process resulting
in a light, reddish-tan colored powder with a pleasant, mild apple
flavor. 40% total dietary fiber, 30% insoluble, 10% soluble." (The
box compares it to oat bran, which it says is 18%, 9%, 9%) Also,
it says it is 13% pectin.

1 ounce has 90 calories; 1 gram fat, 1 gram protein, 20 grams
carbohydrates, 2 mg sodium, 160 mg potassium. I weighed it to see
how much 1 ounce is, but forgot to bring the number in!

The box has recipes for Apple Fiber muffins and Apple Fiber and
Oatmeal cookies, and upon request, they'll send about 6 more; pancakes,
    etc.

I make the muffins in mini tins, and take a handful to work. They
are filling and have a good taste without having to grate apples.

Here in Ohio, it can be found in some grocery stores, and I've seen
it in health food stores, too.

    Good stuff!
