2207.1 | Daisy roll??? | MADMXX::GROVER | The CIRCUIT_MAN | Wed Jan 17 1990 10:17 | 11 |
| Ah.... excuse me, BUT what is "Daisy roll"?
When we do boiled dinner (my favorite meal), we use a corned beef
and boil/simmer it most of the day. After which we add the veges
and allow to cook till tender. Then add the cabbage... I also put
in a turnup (rudabaga(sp?)) with the potatos.
Not so quick, but equilly tastie...! With an American flair, we
serve our boiled dinner now with "johnny cake" (sweet corn bread)
which adds an interesting twist. A... the ultimate melting pot.!

| RE .1, that is exactly what it's called, a Daisy Roll. I got mine
at the Super Stop & Shop, and it was called a Daisy roll, and then
on the back it had another sticker that read "Pork shoulder Butt",
it ends up tasting like ham.

| Thanks for the info... I had never heard it called Daisy Roll before.
Is it (maybe) a type of brand name for the Pork butt. I'll have
to look around the market to see if I can find it.!!

| The day shift meat manager can usually help you. There are often
"local" names for different pieces and the meat manager can often
translate. On any other shift you're likely to just get people who
wrap and stack packages.
I spent a lifetime cutting beef one summer.

| I make my boiled dinner basically the same as .0 but.....
I cut the cabbage in wedges so that you're not trying to scoop out
loose leaves.
Also, I sometimes use corned beef as does .1.
The Daisy ham in our area is wrapped in a red cellophane type material.

| For something different
Add some Linguica(Portuguese sausage) and some pork spare ribs and it
will be even better, also add broccoli to the vegies(don't let it cook
too much) and you've got yourselves a great boiled dinner.
The portuguese hard bread rolls are also a great addition to this
dinner, you can find them at Super-Stop & Shop.
Enjoy.........
