2147.0. "CHINESE FRIED WALNUTS" by CSC32::WOLBACH () Tue Dec 12 1989 18:56

Many years ago-more years than I care to mention-Cosmopolitan
magazine had a recipe for Chinese Fried Walnuts. The recipe
was basically walnuts that were fried in oil (I think), dipped
in sugar, washed with hot water and then sprinkled with salt.
At least I think that's how it went. Of course, if I could
remember how it went, I wouldn't be asking for help!

    Does anyone have this recipe?

    Thanks-
    Deborah

                             SPICED MIXED NUTS

       3/4 c sugar
       3/4 tsp salt
       1 tsp cinnamon
       1/2 tsp cloves
       1/4 tsp allspice
       1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 egg white - slightly beaten
       2-1/2 Tbsp water
       1 c walnuts
       1 c pecans
       1 c brazil nuts

Combine sugar, salt, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg. Stir in
slightly beaten egg white and water until blended.

Add nuts, about 1/2 cup at a time. Stir until well coated, but
gently, to prevent excessive breakage of the nuts.

Lift out with slotted spoon, allowing each spoonful to drain, and
spread on a greased cookie sheet.

Place in 275 degree oven for 45 minutes.

       Store in covered container.
