HI to everybody,
I wanted to start a new note on the binded cookbook. Anyone wishing to
recieve a cookbook, please send me mail. I will periodically post
status reports of the book and its completion.
A few notes.
This book will be close to 11,000 blocks of plain text. When compiled
in Postscript or LN03 format it may take up to 25,000 blocks. Printing
this cookbook on company hardware would NOT be a good idea! Thats why
I opted to bind the book professionally. There will be nine chapters,
with some sub chapters in the book. I am currently negoatiating with
the cookbook binding company as to what we really need.
For a cookbook this large, we may have to split the recipies into
different volumes. In order to actually get the book published I need
at least 1,000 copies already spoken for. Before we cna settle on a
price, we need anidea of exactly how many recipies there are, and how
many copies we need.
The current total of requests is about 100-200 cookbooks.
For a progress report :
The cookbook now has 3693 recipies (when I go through the text multiple
recipies are compiled in a single note).
The following format is being observed:
Chapter 1 - Appetizers - This section is completed and awaiting
review, collation (alphabtizing) and
indexing.
Chapter 2 - Breads & Rolls - This section will be completed by
Saturday.
Chapter 3 - Soups and Salads
Chapter 4 - Vegtables - split into different veggies dishes
Chapter 5 - Main Dishes - split into
Beef
Turkey
Chicken
Lamb
Pork
Combinations
Chapter 6 - Jams and Jellies
Pickles and Relishes
Chapter 7 - Desserts
Chapter 8 - Cakes and Cookies
Chapter 9 - Miscellaneous
I need just 2-3 people for reviewing, (two many people and we will
never get this done !!) The review text will be VAX document compiled
for LINE (terminal output).
I wish to thank all those who have shown such enthusiasm for this
project. And I wish to thank those people who have complied the
previous cookbooks. I believe I can integrate everything together.
If someone would like to volunter to keep track of all the requets, I
WOULD greatly appreciate it.
One last note:
The reason I have said that re-selling this book would probably not
be a good idea, is that a lot of the recipies have been copied from
other sources wothout thier premission. If we publish, and then sell
these books we may have some legal problem.
Again,
Thanks,
Keith

It's here! It's here!
The first version (all recipies prior to MAY 2,1990 from this file) are
finally compiled. Currently the only version is a postcript file.
Just some statistics -
Table of Contents - 93 pages
Cookbook Postscript - 4,626 pages
Compile Time - 41 hours
Postscript file size - 29,079 blocks.
The file is located in
ZAPPP::dua1:[weinberger.tempc.complete]cookbook.ps
Please copy this file after hours (so my system isn't tied up).
I think I have discovered a method to create separate chapter files,
but I am still working the problem. When I have finished, I will move
all the files to an open directory on this system. Larry will also
have a set of files for copying.
Currenlty I am compiling a text version and an ln03 version.
Note: ZAPPP is in a hidden area, its address is 62.140.
Cheers,
Keith

Use SCAPAS for the pass through node, i.e.
SCAPAS::ZAPPP::cookbook.file
The LN03 version of the entire cookbook has been completed. I am
working on the individual chapters now. They will be located in the
same area as the postscript files.
Happy holidays,
Keith

The cookbook files have a new home, and are as snug as a bug in a rug,
or, in this case, as snug as a bug on node SMUG. You may copy the files from:
SMUG""::SMUG$DKA100:[BRUNO.COOKBOOK]
As stated in the previous reply, the files are as follows:

Nothing, however your computer (MSBCS) does not know where node SMUG
is located. You may want to ask your system manager to update your node
database.
Greg
PS: In the meantime, you can use this:
COPY 8343""::SMUG$DKA100:[BRUNO.COOKBOOK]BEEF*.PS; []

| 2146.90 | Cookbook not accessable | VLNVAX::VEN_UHLMAN | Wed Mar 23 1994 18:33 | 16 | |
There appears to be something wrong with SMUG. I am getting the same
message as stated earlier
%DIRECT-E-OPENIN, error openingSMUG""::SMUG$DKA100:[BRUNO.COOKBOOK]*.*;*
as input
-RMS-E-FND, ACP file or directory lookup failed
-SYSTEM-F-INVLOGIN, login information invalid at remote node
I have checked and SMUG is defined in the network database of the node
I used.
Can you please check this out.
Thanks
Jim
