2142.3 | Standard small cakes with frosting, maybe? | DOCS::DOCSVS | | Thu Dec 07 1989 14:13 | 5 |
| I'd heard them called "moon pies". I think they're just cake-textured
chocolate cookies that are frosted on one side with white frosting.
I'll look and see if I find a recipe...

2142.5 | I think whoopie pies are already listed | AKOV11::GMURRAY | | Fri Dec 08 1989 13:44 | 8 |
| I always called two small cakes with the cream between them
whoopie pies.
For half moons, I use the whoopie pie recipe, only I add a little more
milk to make them flatter. Then use your favorite chocolate and
vanilla frostings and do half on each side.

| This is the recipe my sister uses for what we call "Half Moons".
Pearl's 1/2 and 1/2 Cookies
1/4 lb. margarine 2 Cups sifted flour
1 Cup sugar 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 egg 1/2 C sour milk
1/2 tsp salt (2 tsp vinegar added to milk)
1 tsp vanilla
Drop heaping tablespoons of batter onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake
in a 400 degree oven. 20 minutes for large cookies, 10-12 for small.
Frost half white, half chocolate.
[The recipe doesn't give an order for combining ingredients - use
common sense, I guess!]
Quick White Icing
Sift:
2 Cups confectioners' sugar
Beat until soft:
3 tablespoons butter
Add sugar gradually, blend until creamy.
Add:
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
If mixture is too thick, add milk.
Add cocoa for chocolate icing.

2142.10 | My wife's recipe .... | OCTAVE::VIGNEAULT | We're all bozos on this Q-bus | Fri Dec 28 1990 18:26 | 27 |

Well, I'm biased, but my wife makes great Black Moons. Here's the
recipe she uses.
1/2 cup soft margarine 1 tsp vanilla
1 cup sugar 1/2 cup cocoa
1 egg 1 cup milk
2 cups flour 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
Place above ingredients in large bowl and beat at low speed until
smooth; drop by rounded tablespoon on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake
at 400 deg. for 5 minutes. Cool and make sandwiches with the following
filling:
1/2 cup shortening 1 tsp vanilla
2 cup confectioners sugar 3 or 4 tbsp of milk
1/2 jar Marshmallow fluff
Blend using electric mixer until light and fluffy. Wrap individually
in plastic wrap.
These are great when made with a Kitchenaid Mixer, they seem to be
much lighter and airier.
