I collect interesting cookbooks, especially "favorite recipes of..." I was looking at one yesterday that's called "Mother West Wind's Favorite Recipes." It was published in 1976 by Friends of Laughing Brook, Inc. The illustrations are 'early American type' and remind me of Shaker cookbooks I have, but there's no mention anywhere in the book of origin. My Shaker cookbooks list other communities, my books from Restored Historical Villages tell where they're located. Anyone out there know where Laughing Brook is?

2137.1 | I think Laughing Brook is in Cape Cod | CLOSET::FARR | Tue Dec 05 1989 16:35 | 10
The `Mother West Wind' stories were written by Thornton Burgess (sp?), from Sandwich, Mass. on Cape Cod. They were probably written around 1900-1920 and are very memorable; they're mostly fables about how things in nature became they way they are. There's a place in Sandwich to visit, and my guess is that it's called Laughing Brook from the cookbook that you have. Julie

GASP. I could not believe this topic when I saw it. These are my favorite books from childhood. They also happen to be my mothers. Over the past few years my mother has tried to complete her childhood collection of these books. Some of her originals are from the early 1900's. If anyone does locate this cookbook I would love to have a copy (unless of course we are talking BIG BUCKS.) Or if you can find a phone number for me to call so I can order it I would be forever grateful! What a GREAT Christmas present this would make. Being out here in Dayton Ohio makes it a little hard for me to hunt this place down. Please contact me if you get any further information on this cookbook. To all friends of Johnny Chuck.
