2119.0. "Definitions and Terms" by EXIT26::CAMACHO () Mon Nov 27 1989 10:30

    Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a dictionary of
    culinary terms? I know that cookbooks often have terms in the
    back but I'm looking for something comprehensive, no receipes
    just something similar to a dictionary.

    Thanks, Rick

    Ok I looked. It's called The New York Times Food Encylopedia,
    by Craig Clairborne. It is in Alphabetical order, and gives origins
    and descriptions of foods, cooking techniques etc. No recipes ;-)!
    craig also has a great dry sense of humor! It's a great reference
    book.

	  You're right, it's something like that. Anyways, I saw
	  copies of it for sale at BJs Wholesale Club. It was
	  priced between $40.00 and $45.00. Has EVERY possible
	  cooking term you could imagine.

2119.7Any dictionaries engl.-german?STU01::EWINKLERWed Jan 10 1990 08:4812
    Hi,
    I am Ellen from southern Germany. Being a cookbookoholic, I collect
    cookbooks and read (!) them. However, making the good stuff from
    english or american cookbooks ain't easy. As far as I know, there
    is no dictionary around english - german or english - dutch. Normal
    dictionaries like Websters or Cassells are useless. Maybe I should
    make my old plan true to write a dictionary of cooking terms - anybody
    dutch or german with a knowledge of english/american cooking around
    to help me?? My mail name is: Ellen Winkler @SUO.

    A late Happy New Year to all great cooks of this notesfile!!!
