| Hi, I usually go to the store and buy peanuts, raisens, sunflower
seeds, chocolate chips (or carob chips) and whatever else looks good.
I mix them all together and store them in Tupperware containers. These
are great treats for the kids too!

| Some of my children are into backpacking and are always making gorp,
yes, that's what they call it. They use M&M's instead of chocolate
chips it doesn't seem to be as messy.

I always call the stuff "gorp"...everyone thinks I made that up...glad
to see other people call it gorp too.
Try sunflower seeds, almonds, raisins, banana chips, coconut, peanuts,
dried apricot, dried pineapple...lots combos to try. Then store in an
air tight container..yum.

| HOMEMADE CRUNCHY GRANOLA
------------------------
3 1/2 cups regular oats, uncooked
1/2 cup grated coconut
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup sunflower kernels
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 cup raisins (optional)
Combine oats, coconut, almonds, pecans, wheat germ, sesame seeds, and sunflower
kernels in a large bowl. Stir well. Combine honey, brown sugar, and oil in a
small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar melts and mixture
is thoroughly heated. Remove from heat; add peanut butter and vanilla, stirring
until well blended. Drizzle over oat mixture; toss gently to coat well. Spread
mixture evenly in a greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch jellyroll pan. Bake at 250 degrees
for 50 to 60 minutes or until toasted and dry, stirring gently every 20 minutes;
add raisins after 40 minutes, if desired. Let granola cool completely. Store
in an airtight container. Yield: 8 cups.
Variation - To make granola bars, press unbaked granola mixture (without
raisins) into a greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch jellyroll pan, using greased
fingertips. Press mixture flat with the back of a wide metal spatula. Bake
at 250 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes to 1 1/2 hours or until toasted. Cut
granola into bars while warm. Let cool completely in pan. Remove bars from
pan, and store in an airtight container. Yield: 30 bars.

2061.8 | Chex-mix combinations please? | POWDML::CORMIER | | Mon Oct 26 1992 09:24 | 5 |
| Does anyone have a recipe for a Chex-type mix? I have the one from the
Chex cereal box, but someone is looking for something a little
different (bored with this one, I guess). Some ideas on combinations
of ingredients, spices, what to pour over the mix, would be great.

| My aunt makes the usual "chex mix" but with Life cereal instead (Life
cereal has sugar crystals inside). My brother can eat this stuff in
incredible quantities!
