1842.0. "Which Brand of Feta???" by BTOVT::GEORGE_L (Thirty something...) Mon Jun 26 1989 17:24

Can anyone tell me which is the best brand of Feta cheese to buy?
I had some in a greek salad once and can't seem to find any that
even come close to the same flavor, and they seem to be very salty.

    Thanks in advance

Ive only seen two types....domestic and imported.....Ive tried
them both and find the domestic meets my taste requirements...
course Im not a Feta fetish....the domestic is about $1.99 lb
while the imported is in the $3.00 range...

I can help you with your Feta problem ...... !!

Feta that is purchased at the deli counter in the Super market ...
should be taken home and rinsed with clear water and stored in a
tight container with water ..... the water does take on a milkie
look .... but don't dis-spare ..... it cuts the salt considerably
and has a much better taste ...... and improves the shelf life ...

The best feta is sold in any Mediterrean Market ..... if your from
the Worcester area I can recommend the Tech_Market on Park Ave in
Worcester ....... they also sell prepared Shish-Kabob (Lamb and
    Beef) ......... Delicious stuff .......... !!!

This idea should give you years of Feta Enjoying ..... also pick
up some Spearmint and Greek Olive oil (it is lighter than the Italian
olive oil) to add to your Feta salad ........

One recipe to share: When my garden produces tomatoes ..... I slice
them up with mild onions (Spanish is the mildest) and garlic (to
taste) crumble Feta cheese over tomatoes and onions... sprinkle with
fresh mint Lemon juice, olive oil, and fresh pepper for dressing.
