| The original recipe called for Angel food cake. I did not use it
because I do not care for Angel food cake.

1731.6 | how 'bout frozen berries?? | ISLNDS::COLELLA | Then queue to another printer!! | Thu Aug 10 1989 17:58 | 8 |
| I want to make this for my mom's birthday (it's actually today but
we're having the party Saturday night). Is it OK to use frozen
strawberries?? We have a bunch of them we picked from our garden
sitting in the freezer and I'd rather use those than the "fresh
red-on-top-white-on-the-bottom" strawberries you get in the
supermarkets.

1731.7 | sure, use the frozen ones. | CSG001::SCHOFIELD | | Fri Aug 11 1989 10:04 | 12 |
| I made this and it's FANTASTIC! I used Angel Food cake and it worked
fine.
As for the frozen strawberries, I think it might work, but you'll
need to drain them pretty well. If you're going to decorate the
top, you might want to use the fresh ones (only on the top).
Also, I used more cool whip. It's the only thing with fat in the
whole recipe. (providing you use non fat yogurt and angel food
cake.)

| Cool Whip is fat. Read the ingrediants some time.

| It's nondairy, which means no cream not no fat. I guess it's good
for people who are allergic to milk and dairy products. Is it really
lard, though?? I thought it was oils with no cholesterol! I'll
check when I buy it tonight.

| Cool Whip contains Palm and Kernel oils - the absolute worst
for people who are watching their cholesterol.

| Yeah, I checked out the label when I bought it. The stuff is a
mixture of hydrogenated vegetable and tropical oils. Gross! The
cake tasted great though!!

1731.13 | Any alternatives??? | PARITY::DDAVIS | Long-cool woman in a black dress | Tue Aug 15 1989 10:32 | 7 |
| Wow! That's awful...seems that the real thing, as bad as that is, is
better than Cool Whip. Is there a better alternative? Anyone have a
any ideas, maybe with yogurt?
Thanks for letting us know.

1731.14 | vanilla yogurt cheese?? | ISLNDS::COLELLA | Then queue to another printer!! | Tue Aug 15 1989 11:47 | 10 |
| I haven't tried it yet, but someone had a recipe in here for yogurt
cheese. You can make it with vanilla yogurt and use it as a dip
for fruits. That's one suggestion. I don't know if it would be
too heavy on the cake (consistency-wise) though. I don't worry
about it because I rarely eat cake/cream/tropical oils. For the
few times I do I'm going to use real whipping cream. Ah, but when
will I make my next cake????
