| Try boiling it with dishwasher detergent--soak it first, then boil.
Your kitchen will smell like a laundromat, but it usually works
forme.

| If .1 doesn't work, just continue to use the pot, but forget about it
looking nice. If you throw it away, there won't be anything to remind
your husband not to do it again :-).
PS: Several more years of scouring with steel wool will eventually get
it shiny again. No hurry.

| Sometimes baking soda will remove those type stains. Just sprinkle
some in the bottom of the pot, add some water to make it soupy,
and let it sit for awhile.

| You may also want to try cream of tartar and water, set it on the stove
to boiling and then remove. I've scorched the bottom of my corning
ware tea pot and the cream of tartar removes all stains. Don't know if
it will work on stainless tho. good luck!

| If there are blue and red swirly marks in the metal
under all the black and brown, that's there for keeps.
(I have a few of them.)

| Make a small batch of spaghetti sauce in the pot. The acid in the tomato sauce
should clean it. I've see it polish the inside of other pans.

| Well this worked on my enamel pots and it did just pick up the black
from the bottom.
People thought I was wierd, but when they saw it worked they remained
silent.
We should have a helpfull hints topic for other issues like this.
Thanks for helping me and for your husband burning the pot!

Try either Cameo Copper or Aluminum and Stainless Steel cleaner
to remove the swirly marks on stainless steel pans. You can find
it in the detergent section of the grocery store. It also removes
dishwater marks if you use it before putting your pans in the
dishwasher.
