1613.0. "PIE: Chocolate-Malted Brownie Pie" by GIVEME::JOY (Gotta get back to Greece!) Fri Jan 27 1989 12:48
Somewhere asked for a recipe for making malted milk balls but I can't find
the note anymore, so I'll just enter this as a new note. This and lots more
yummy chocolate recipes were found in the Feb. issue of Good Housekeeping
magazine.
Chocolate-Malted Brownie Pie
1 1/4 c. sugar
6 tbsp. butter or margarine,softened
3 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
3 large eggs, separated
1/2 c flour
1 tsp. vanilla extract
chocolate malted-milk powder
1 c. heavy or whipping cream
1/8 tsp. salt
confectioner's sugar
choolate-covered malted-milk balls for garnish
1. Preheat overn to 325 degrees. Grease 9" pie plate. In large bowl, with
mixer at medium speed, beat sugar, butter or margarine, melted chocolate
and egg yolks until well blended. Stir in flour, vanilla extract, 1/3 c.
chocolate malted-milk powder and 2 tbsp. heavy or whipping cream.
2. In small bowl, with clean beaters, with mixer at high speed, beat egg
whites and salt until soft peaks form. With rubber spatula, gently fold
beaten egg whites into chocolate mixture. Pour mixture into pie plate.
3. Bake pie 30 to 35 minutes until toothpick inserted in center of pie
comes out clean. Cool pie completely on wire rack. When pie is cool, remove
from pie plate.
4. To serve, sprinkle pie lightly with confectioner's sugar. In small bowl,
with mixer at medium speed, beat 1/2 cup chocolate malted-milk powder and
remaining cream until soft peaks form. Spoon whipped cream into decorating
bag with large rosette tube; use to pipe decorative edge around pie.
Garnish with chocolate-covered malted-milk balls. Makes 10 servings. About
410 calories per serving without malted-milk balls.
