Among their cookbooks include one titled "Mainly Muffins." I haven't
seen it myself, so I can't vouch for it, but I do have their Soup
Cookbook, which is very good. (Cost $2.95, app. 30 pages) It might
be worth a try.

| This is from my annotated list of bread cookbooks; an early version of
the list appeared in note 891.5. Of the books listed below, I only own
Cutler's and Rosenberg's.
Albright & Weiner $5 ppr
Mostly Muffins (D-513P)
Alston, ? $9 h
Muffins (D-514)
Cutler, C $6 ISBN 0-89256-317-6 1985 \r
Carol Cutler's Great Fast Breads
Pretty good book; organized by time, the total elapsed
time from start to table. Four chapters: less than 30
minutes, less than 60, 90, and two hours. .........
Greenberg & Kyte $6 ppr
Muffins, Nut Breads and More (D-538P)
Makris, ? $7 ppr
Delicious Quick Breads and Muffins (B-411P)
Rosenberg, L $3 ppr ISBN 0-942320-13-1 1986 \r
Muffins and Cupcakes
Not generally recommended. Fancy fluff.
Carol Cutler's book has six muffin recipes in the first chapter ---
three-flour, pumpkin, ice-cream, blueberry, orange-raisin, and
jiffy-fruit, but many bread cookbooks have at least that many muffin
recipes. (Tarr and Casella, for examples.) You might do well to
look at bread cookbooks is general.

Alston, ? $9 h
Muffins (D-514)
I have sitting before me, the above-mentioned book. It is titled "Muffins",
by Elizabeth Alston. They list Clarkson N. Potter, Inc. as the publishers,
distributed by Crown Publishers, Inc. (New York).
It is subtitled "Sixty sweet and savory recipes...from old favorites to
new". The individual chapters are: Breakfast Muffins, Tea Muffins,
Savory Muffins, English Muffins, Special-diet Muffins, and Spreads &
Preserves. I've made a couple of the recipes and they have turned out
very well. For a cookbook specializing in muffins, I think this is a
good choice. I bought it through Jessica's Biscuit, a mail order cookbook
source (sorry, I don't have a current catalog or the address).
Recipes include standbys such as blueberry and bran, but also branch out
into unusual ones like Oregon Hazlenut and Fig Muffins, or Golden Raisin
Rosemary Muffins or even Smoked Turkey, Wild Rice, and Mushroom Muffins!
Some great combinations and basic tips on how to bake and store muffins.

| re Note 1526.3 by Jan Brown
Thank you for the book review, Jan. I've taken the liberty of weaving
it into my book list, and now I'll buy the book myself. The numbers in
parentheses in my book list are the catalog numbers at Jessica's
Biscuit. It happens that both the numbers and the prices are still
current for the muffin books in 1526.2
Jessica's Biscuit accepts telephone orders at 1-800-225-4264. This
mail order house is OK.
