1451.0. "Taco dainties" by PRGMUM::FRIDAY () Thu Oct 20 1988 13:45

    This recipe is so simple someone must have thought of it before,
    but since I didn't see it in this file here goes:

    Take tortilla corn chips (there are not the triangular corn chips,
    but fairly good sized round ones), spread a small amount of refried
    beans on each one, sprinkle some cheddar cheese on each, and microwave
    until the cheese melts. Serve with the usual taco toppings
    available. Using the refried beans is what makes them different
    than nachos.

    Be sure to keep them separated when "nuking" them so they don't
    stick together like nachos do.

    My son (2.5)m likes Mexican food but is utterly frustrated with
    tacos. But these little "taco dainties" he can manage quite well
    all by himself. I myself found I'd rather deal with these than
    a crumbling taco.

    Enjoy

1451.1try using FLOUR shellsAKOV12::SILVERIAThu Oct 20 1988 15:397
    There are a lot of different combos you can use to make different
    nachos. All are yummy. Just a side note to your toddler not being
    able to handle tacos. I always use flour shells when making tacos
    for our family (a favorite, by the way). Just heat them on a hot
    griddle about 15 seconds a side and send to the table. Put all
    the goodies inside and then make an envelope to eat. SOOOO much
    easier and we like the flavor better than the corn shells.
1451.2I think those are burritosBONOVX::BARRYFri Oct 21 1988 16:4515
    I hate to say it but I THINK that if you use a flour tortilla in the
    manner you describe, you are actually making burritos! At least
    thats what my mexican Grandmother would call them. Of course, my
    Grandmother laughs when we decide to have Tacos... I guess these
    aren't really appropriate for a meal! I think (I've never been
    to Mexico) that she said tacos are sold by street vendors sometimes
    but are considered more of a snack and not something that is real
    commonly eaten...

    Personally, I like both!!!

    I call the taco-in-a-flour-tortilla a burrito too. When I make
    "regular" tacos, I fry the corn tortillas myself, very quickly in
    a skillet so they're soft. We may have a blow out or two but no
    big-time shattering of shells. I also put all the fillings in
    different bowls so our tacos are a mix your own like Indian food.
