1242.3 | I've never been camping but I know how to grill... | 15469::LUBY | love them furry terrorists | Wed Jun 29 1988 13:02 | 16 |

You have to have your veggies too!!
A vegetarian friend of mine and I decided to have a barbecue
and we grilled sliced tomatoes, summer squash cut in half lengthwise,
and corn on the cob. The corn is grilled still in the husk and
once the husk is quite brown the corn is done. Then you husk it
which tends to be a bit tricky but the corn is fantastic!! It has
an unusual flavor, almost tastes like meat!
Other vegies you could grill include eggplant, cucumbers (yuck),
zuchinni, mushrooms (best if you skewer these), small onions, or
large onion slices.
Have a good time!

1242.4 | DON'T FORGET BREAKFAST | TWEED::D_SPENCER | | Wed Jun 29 1988 13:16 | 6 |
| Before you leave, bake (or better yet, microwave) some potatoes.
Bring the potatoes, bacon, eggs (scramble them ahead of time and
put in airtight container). There's nothing better than bacon,
eggs, and hashbrowns for breakfast in the wilderness! (don't forget
the coffee!)

1242.5 | Shish-kabob | MCIS2::CORMIER | | Wed Jun 29 1988 13:54 | 10 |
| Any Shish-kabob recipe will suffice...and with the pre-baked potatoes
in .4 it makes a very quick, easy dinner. Just wrap the potatoes
in foil, throw on the coals and let them warm up. We used to use
the branches from a particular tree (we called it a Peppermint
Birch, but it may be a Black Birch) for the skewers fot toasting
or cooking anything over a fire. When you peel off the bark, you
can smell peppermint! It gives things a very subtle flavor of mint.

1242.7 | From an Almost Vegetarian | SKIVT::P_MARGOLIS | Paula Beth | Fri Jul 08 1988 14:44 | 17 |
| A little late, maybe but...
We also went camping for the fourth. We brought a bit of chicken,
and $50 worth of fruits and vegetables. Almost any kind of vegetable
can be cooked in an open fire. The trick is to prepare them, then
wrap in aluminum foil.
My favorite is carrots with butter, salt, pepper and mesquite
seasoning. Another good one is buttered cauliflower, squash, peas and red
onions. Then there's always grilled whole green peppers and onions,
and corn on the cob...
Our meal was supplemented with fresh caught Rainbow Trout, and
Crayfish...YUM!!!
