Does anyone know what a Banana Squash is? It was referenced in a cook book I was reading the other day in a manner such that I should already know what it is, but I have never heard of it. It isn't another name for summer squash, that is used in another recipe in another part of the book. What is it? Where can it be bought? (part of the country/world) and what substitutes can there be. Thanks! Kathi

>Does anyone know what a Banana Squash is? Large, hard-skinned member of squash family. Bright yellow in color when ripe. Available on West coast all the time (in my store at least) but I cannot vouch for other parts of the country. If you don't find one when you need it, I would imagine any sweet bakable squash will do. Substitute suggestions: hubbard or acorn or others like this. Not at all like what I call summer squash, but things are called different names in other parts of the world so...anyone out there have other definitions? |
