1169.1 | MY CHOICE - STEAM IT! | WOODRO::SYREN | | Thu May 19 1988 11:07 | 13 |
| I steam spaghetti squash in an 8 covered pot. Lay squash on its
side in the pot - add about 3 cups water (1/2 way up the sides of
the squash). Steam for approx. 15-20 minutes until squash feels
spongy. Remove - cut in half lengthwise - remove seeds (carefully
so as not to disturb the meat) - then take a spoon and scrape down
the meat so that it shreads like spaghetti. I like to serve with
just lots of butter and salt/pepper to taste (perhaps a dash of
dill). There are as many recipes as there are tastebuds so choose
several and experiment. The squash is very bland so makes a great
side dish - also can be used as low calorie pasta served with sauce.
GREAT STUFF!!!

| My mom makes it in the micro. She forks it a few times so steam
can get out and nukes it until soft. Then she cuts it open lengthwise,
throws out the seeds, scoops out the squash and tosses it with butter.

My way and it works perfectly.
Prick squash several times with fork.
Bake at 350 until fork pricks easily (about 1 hour)
Remove, cut in half, scoop out seeds.
Using fork remove hot strands of squash and top with your
favorite topping.
My favorite recipe : Sausage and Vegetable Spagetti. The recipe
is in the notes file under one of the other spagetti squash notes.

| I've steamed, microwaved, and pressure cooked. I like the pressure
cooked best. Takes about 8 - 10 minutes at 15 lbs pressure.
