664.0. "BAGELS: Where to Find 'em" by CSSE::MCKINNON () Tue Jul 28 1987 14:43

I seem to remember a note regarding REAL bagels in Worcester. I
went through all of the topics and I didn't find it. I probably
    went right by it!

I would like to know if there is such a thing that does exist.
I've been craving a REAL bagle for some time and I live sort of
near Worcester. If worse comes to worse I'll have to have my Dad
send me a package from the Big Apple (now we're talkin REAL bagles).

    p.s. I even did a dir/key=bagel............and no go!

    thanks,

Can't help you out with Worcester, but there are two really good
bagel shops in the Framingham/Sudbury area. Don't remember their
exact names, but there's one on Route 20 in Sudbury (Bagel Baker
I think) that's very good. (It's located near the Marlboro line
almost directly across from Horse Pond Rd.) They've got a pretty
good selection of various flavored cream cheeses too.

The other one is fairly new on Route 9 (Westbound) in Framingham.
I think it's name is Bagels, etc. It's next to Honey Farms (a
convenience store) right at the Temple St. turn-off (Finally Michaels
is diagonally across the street). They have a good selection of
bagels, bialis and knishes. Lots of cream cheeses too - try the
Vegetable Cream Cheese on an Everything Bagel - you'll think you
    died and went to heaven!

My husband is from New York so he has to have his bagel fix every
so often. I usually buy a dozen or two and freeze them right away.
(They keep very well.) He claims they are the closest things to
New York bagels he's had in this area.

Sorry to get so carried away on the subject. It's cruel to talk
about real food after a totally unsatisfying and uninspired lunch
    ala Tobin!

If you plan to venture out in search of these bagel shops I suggest
you call them first...the one on Rte 9 closes early in the day.
Also, the place in Sudbury won the Best in Metro West award in the
Middlesex News. This was before the place on Rte 9 opened - suspect
they'll have a neck & neck race for first place next time.

    Enjoy!

There are 2 bakeries in Worcester both on Water Street that have
bagels. One is more real than the other but none can compare to
a N.Y. (Brooklyn) bagel. Water street is only about one block long
and you reach by taking 290 West to Kelly Square Exit. Turn right
until you reach a rotory. There will be a sign for Water Street.
You can even buy lox and veggie cream cheese in one of the deli type
    stores there.
I've since moved from the Worcester area and I'm not all that sure
    on the directions. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

There's a very good shop in Worcester called Arthur's Bagels and
Friends - they presently have two stores; one near the corner of
June and Chandler Streets (by CVS) and the other on Park Ave in
a tall glass building between Pleasant St and Elm St. The bagels
are made fresh daily and they have maybe a half-dozen varieties.
They're open at 5:30 am for breakfast, and I think they close at
	2:00-2:30 pm.

The places on Water Street -1 was mentioning are (I believe)
Widoff's Bakery and Ledderman's Bakery (sp?).The best time to
get them is on a Sunday morning about 7:00-7:30 am as the bagels
are just coming out of the ovens. Also, the Broadway restaurant
(also on Water St.) have WONDERFUL breakfasts and their bagels are
delicious, however, I believe they get their "supplies" from Widoff's
	(which is next door).

For cream cheese and/or lox, try Whitman's (ALSO on Water Street).
I'm not sure what the hours are.

	Happy Hunting!

.3 - Thanks for the tips. Since I live in Sturbridge, would I take
a left or a right off of the Kelly Sqaure exit??

.4 - Again thanks for all the bagel "joints". I do have one MAJOR
    problem......I can't remember the last time I saw 7:30 on a Sunday
morning, but for relatively "New York" bagels, an early trip sounds
like it might be worth it!!!!!!!!

    Appreciate all your help!
