Does anybody have a recipe for bread made with shredded wheat (the cereal)???? I remember my mom making it when I was a kid and she can't remember where her recipe went to! The only thing I remember about it is that she soaked the shredded wheat in milk (I think!). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, RHD

This was always one of my favorites -- and it is a simple bread. My grandmother used to make it, lots of pleasant memories... 3 c. Boiling water poured over 3 crushed biskets Shredded Wheat 2 T. Shortening (or bacon fat) 1 T. Salt 1/4 c. Molasses 1 pkg dry yeast dissolved in 1/2 c. lukewarm water 7-8 c. Flour melted butter Combine ingredients adding only as much flour as necessary, knead until smooth and elastic, let rise until doubled. Shape into 2 loafs -- place in loaf pans. Let double again, brust to with melted butter, and bake in a 350 degree oven about 1 hour. Enjoy, Eliot (let me know if you need more details) |
