I'm looking for a recipe for making pickled herring, herring in wine sauce, herring in sour cream, etc. Although I am too late with this request, the eating of herring on New Year's eve, in my family, always means good luck in the new year. Would love to hear from Norway or Sweden on this one.

Yeah, I know this isn't a recipe, but if you can get to Maynard, try some of the herring in white wine at the Quarterdeck on Main St. (across from the Mill Pond). It's fan-tastic! Better than any pickled herring I've ever had! They'll let you sample it at the market, and they take checks. My holiday order included 10 fillets. - JP |
