For those who dont read the Scottish press where the deal was
reported. MP, you are vul. RHO (E) opens 2C GF. I was S, and
fearing a slam and being endplayed in C, doubled. We have no
agreement, so I was hoping that after the bidding pard would figure
that my X was on a C suit, and lead there. RHO asked, and was told
that initially pard would take it for takeout. Anyway:
Q8xx-Qxx-9xxxx-x
KJxxx-KJxxxx-void-xx A9-A-AKQJTx-AQTx
Tx-Txx-xx-KJ9xxx
I led ST-J-Q-A. Decl cashed 5 diamonds, I
E S W N ditched 3 clubs. HA, SK, HK, Cx-x-T-J, and
2C X 2H P I have a safe H exit and -1.
3D P 3S P
6D AP Despite RHO protestations the score stayed.
In fact my X should have helped him to make.
Even the better scoring 6N can make without
the double. Now, there are two lines for 6D.
Which one would you choose? Would you bid 6N?

The only sure line to make 6D that I can see is by ruffing a Heart at
trick 10 (i.e. SA,5D,HA,SK (discarding a club), HK, H ruff stripping
South, then CQ or CT end playing South). Any other line (like a squeeze
against North in H and S) seems to require a defensive error.
May be I'm missing something!

The other line is to squeeze-throwin N: win SA, cash 7 D-C winners,
HA, SK, Sx to N who has to exit H.

I agree the score stands. At the critical point (SA, DAKQJ10,
HA,SK,HK), I think he knows what he is entitled to know. By the
way, after ruffing a H, if he selects that play, the best exit is CQ.
