This was the only bidding decision I had Tuesday that I wasn't clear on - doesn't mean I was right on the others - just that I presumed I knew what they meant :-). AQxx void Qxx AQxxxx You Partner 1C 1H 1S 2NT ? Is 3C forcing? Certainly better than 3NT if it is. If it is, then what do you do with Axxx void Qxx AJxxxx? I suppose , with the original, you can bid 3D, but the hand isn't THAT good. So, 3C forcing? If not, your call?

1942.1 | lucky escape - what was AF/AK defense ? | GAAS::BRAUCHER | And nothing else matters | Thu Mar 06 1997 09:13 | 14 |
JK - in the style we were playing (my 2NT is an 11 count, 2D then 2NT would be forcing), I think 3C is not forcing and 3D is the only choice you had. By the way, the deal was something like : AQxx - Qxx AQxxxx Jxx A108xx xxxx x K10xx J9xx Kxx Kx xx KQxx AJ10 J10xx And was pushed at 3NT making 4. 5C makes on 1 of 3 finesses, but the heart lead should have beaten 3NT, except that at our table, RHO on winning CK returned a LOW heart instead of the 9 !! bb | |||||
1942.2 | I'd bid 3C | SUBSYS::SENGUPTA | Shekhar Sengupta DTN 237-6785 | Thu Mar 06 1997 15:26 | 8 |
Absent any other understanding, I would bid 3C to clarify my hand pattern as well as high card concentration. Is 3D totally artificial or does it signify anything from the actual holding to a 4-2-3-4 hand pattern? Your hand deteriorates noticeably after the 1H bid, so I don't think there is a need to make a forcing bid unless partner can find a bid after 3C. Shekhar |
