| If you aren't too modern to open 1N with 1-4-4-4 and single
top hon, then 1D would be automatic in US, wouldn't it?
Here 1H, then 2N (MP) resp. 2D (IMPs) over 2C or 1N.

Yes, 1D is Standard American, and rebid a wide-range 2C over 1S.
There are several problems with that, of course. So various people
would open 1NT, or reverse into hearts, or open 1C, or even 1H.
The strong clubbers are in even worse shape, trying to bid 3 suits !!
I'm not convinced anything works all the time. Not even the Roman 2D.

I decided on 1H. If opps find spades, I can:
1) double to show minors
2) expect a heart lead from partner
Whatever you open (1C,1D,1H,1N) will get passed out:
Qxxx-xxx-Qx-J9xx
Axxx-T9x-Axx-Qxx JT9x-K87-J9xx-Kx
K-AQJ2-KTxx-AT8x
(I may have CJ, and partner CT for the lack of a bid from partner)
LHO thought that dummy might be ruffing, and led a trump. RHO ducked
and I won with a quack. Who am I to deny LHO's thoughts, and led a
Dx toward dummy. LHO thought for a while and tried ducking, hoping
his partner had DK, and could lead 2nd trump - he'd rise DA on next
diamond and lead the last trump.
When DQ held, I led a low club to the CT and LHO's CQ. Grateful for
the opportunity to lead trump again, LHO did so. My other quack won
that trick, and I led D8 towards Dx. LHO had to rise DA to win trick
so he could lead "last" trump. HK falls under HA, CK falls under CA,
and +140 was a near top. Many +110s in 1C and 1D.
