| Looking at QTxx-KQx-J987x-J, it seems obvious to you that this is a
stopper-ask. Partner doubled with this hand, without asking what the
meaning of 3D was.
Next hand bid 4H. I now asked the 4H bidding what 3D was. "I presume
it's some sort of Michaels bid", was the reply.
I'm looking at KJxx-AJxx-KTxx-x. I know she hasn't got a clue what
the 3D bid really was. I'd like to double, but I'm afraid the 3D
bidder will run to 5C, and that might make. So I quietly passed.
The 3D bidder passed, and now it's back to partner. He'd like to
hit it, but with the explanation he just heard, 4H might make, so
he bid 5D!

As you can see, we have a good shot at making 4S, while 5D is down
one. The best action is to pass out 4H and set it a bundle. Should
we have looked for recourse?

Since you're doubling a partscore at Imps in a possible misunderstanding,
I think you have to be able to beat 3D !! So, by logic, it shows diamonds
enough so that 3D probably isn't natural. I think you DO NOT set up a
force by this. That is, after 1D-3D-Dbl-P-P-3S-P-P-?, opener is invited
but not forced. However, you could have the agreement that such doubles
DO set up a force. Mostly, you'd ask, or get an alert. I'm not sure
that any of the popular treatments require an alert, however. Cue-bids
are mostly not alertable, and I'm not all sure what is a "standard" 3D.

| One final question.
For those you play gambling 3NT bids, what is the difference between
1m-3N and 1m-3m?
Should one be no outside controls (Gambling, as if the opening bid
never happen), while the other has some outside controls and just
needs a stopper in opener's minor? Does it make a difference if
the opening bid is in a major?
