1928.0. "Whose hand is it, anyways?" by DAVIDB::DMILLER (This bug fix broke what???????) Mon Feb 10 1997 12:57

	IMPs (Swiss Teams), both vul. You are dealer holding Txxxx-Txx-xx-Axx.

	You are MS, Pard is DM, RHO is JK...

	You	LHO	Pard	RHO
	Pass	Pass	1S	2D
	3S*	4D	4S	5D
	?

	3S was weak (<10 pts), by agreement. What do you do now?

1928.1pass by meGAAS::BRAUCHERChampagne SupernovaMon Feb 10 1997 13:348
  Well, Dave, I'd pass, as you'd probably suspect. In my view, this is
 not forcing, and I'm sitting for anything partner does.

  I'm just not smart enough to guess the locations of the undisclosed 36
 high card points !

1928.2PassCADSYS::GROSSThe bug stops hereMon Feb 10 1997 14:025
I would have bid 4S the first time according to the LAW. I don't see any way
to recover. Partner does not have a good count on the size of our spade fit.
I'd pass and hope they are taking a phantom save.

Dave
1928.3ARE YOU LUCKY TONITE?BULMER::KABLESHKOVTue Feb 11 1997 11:244
    Well, your 5 spades have reduced partners DT in that suit.
    It's quite possible they can make 5D. If you weren't vul,
    5S stands out. Now it's a matter of tossing again your lucky
    coin. Heads? Go 5S.
1928.4Need help from JK to fill in EW handsDAVIDB::DMILLERThis bug fix broke what???????Tue Feb 11 1997 15:3226
	Turns out I was the only one at the table who knew whose hand it was...

				Mine!

	Partial layout (JK, help me out with your 2D hand):

			Txxxx-Txx-xx-Axx
	x-Kxx-??????-Qxx		Qx-xxxx-????-Txx
			AKJxx-AQJ-x-KJxx

	Auction: P-P-1S-2D-3S*-4D-4S-5D-5S?-P-P(Aaargh!)-P

	Partner bid 5S trying to make up for the extra spade length and
	valuable CA. Unfortunately, he's already shown me spade length
	and very little points, and should probably leave the choice up
	to me.

	They can score 6D + HK, and as long as we don't break clubs, 5DX
	will be +1100, otherwise +800.

	The defense at our table was low diamond to one of RHO's honors,
	and RHO correctly returned a heart. Now there's no way to make it.

	Our partners let 5S make on diamond lead, diamond ruffed. Trump
	was pulled, then HJ led. West ducked, and got end-played on HA,
	HQ continuation.

I think we had the C9 for -800
Partner's 4D bid really wasn't very good, but then my 2D call was a
little light as well.
