Hi everybody,
I am used to work on Mailworks On VMS, but now I have a customer who
has the OSF version installed who has asked me the following question
to which I really do know how to answer. Please forgive me for not
being enough precise, but I will try to be as clear as possible:
Software involved:
Mailworks OSF/1 1.7
TeamLinks Client 2.5 on WFW and WIN95
Questions:
1) If a user forgets his password, the system manager has told me he
has to delete the account and re-create it. There is not any
possibility to change the password for a user ? Passwd ???
2) All notification (delivery/read) are in english. I know in VMS
there were some file that could be customized to allow the user to
receive those notification in their own language.
Is it possible also with the OSF/1 version ?
Any help would be very much appreciated and required.
Many many thanks for anyone's time and support.
Ciao,
paola

1) Has this system manager ever managed a UNIX system before?
(if not, this probably won't be the first problem you have!)
Have him type "man passwd" at the command prompt.
The short answer is that if he logs in as root, then
using the command
passwd accountname
he can change any account's password.
2) It is possible to localize MailWorks, although I don't know
that it has been done very often (other than to Japanese,
which has a whole different set of issues than you will
have to deal with.) I don't think that it is quite as
simple as changing a text file.
If you are interested in having it localized, we can put together
a set of instructions for the person who will be doing it -
send me mail ([email protected])

THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY.\
I just have a doubt: since I have already told the customer to use
passwd to change the password, I was wondering if in case of mail
account the database is different. To be more clear: if the user
forgets his password to access into his TeamLinks client account, can
the system manager simply change it by using passwd ??
I will send you a mail, since I would very much appreciate to locate
mailworks on the server in order to customize delivery/receipt
notification.

paola

Just to provide closure for the notes file (I think we have already settled this by mail): MailWorks does use the system passwords (which are set with the passwd command). _Stan | |||||
