I thought we had a Note for this, but it seems not. This is the ranking which UEFA calculate to decide how many teams each country can enter in the UEFA Cup automatically. (And also the teams for the Champions League?) Interesting that the Germans have dropped to 4, and lose their right to 4 teams. I don't know how this is calculated, but presumably it's on Club results in the 3 Euro-competitions. This is the ranking for 1997-98: Countries with 4 Teams: 1 Italy 61.259 2 France 45.408 3 Spain 43.932 Countries with 3 Teams: 4 Germany 42.140 5 Holland 38.700 6 Portugal 32.800 7 England 30.166 8 Belgium 27.800 Countries with 2 Teams: 9 Greece 27.000 10 Russia 25.200 11 Turkey 22.916 12 Denmark 22.000 13 Austria 21.950 14 Sweden 18.750 15 Switzerland 18.250 16 Czech Rep 17.000 17 Scotland 16.555 18 Norway 15.832 19 Ukraine 15.665 20 Hungary 15.249 21 Romania 15.150 grahame

Hi Heribert, >Austria better than Switzerland and Sweden ? Salzburg (?) had 2 good years in Europe recently? And Rapid last year? >Greece and Turkey better than Austria ? Panathanaikos and the mighty Manc-crushing Galatasary. I think I read the results are gathered over 5 years, so we might have tothink back a bit in some cases. grahame |
