519.0. "Goal celebrations" by CHEFS::ASHLEYSMITH (get yer kicks with Julian Dicks) Wed Nov 08 1995 14:19

Post-goal celebrations don't you just lurve them, the last couple of
weeks I have noticed a new trend. Forget the Klinnsman 'Dive', the
Ian Dowie 'Constipated Donkey' and Ravanelli 'Dont I look a twat with
my shirt over my head' - we now have 'Shooting Stars' celebrations.

Yep, last weeks Endsleigh highlights showed numerous Vic Reeves 'thigh
rubbing' type celebrations and even a finger waggle in the 'really
wanna see those fingers!' style. Of course, if you dont watch the
program this will mean nothing to you but obviously most Professionals
are tuning in on a Friday night.

Bit of a surprise this but it makes you wonder how Vic'n'Bob could
further influence the game. Will Coventry fans be cooing down 'The
Ndlovu from above', will Uncle Peter be standing at Highbury shouting
    out his favourite 'Donkey!' catchphrase?

Any other personal favourites out there?

    Andy

re `ERANU' and `UVAVU' in the last few notes. These are catchphrases
from the ball-bouncingly funny `Shooting Stars' with Vic Reeves and Bob
Mortimer, shown on Friday's at 9.30 on BBC2, (so funny that it stops me
from going to the pub!!, plus the fact that Ulrika-ka-ka-ka Jonnson is
    one of the team captains....)

The argument could be settled if one of you little chappies watches the
    programme with teletext subtitles on.

Now adopted by the North Bank when goal-kicks are taken. Could'nt
believe it when that cry when up last night and half expected them
to give a chorus of "we wanna see those fingers" when Bould and
Adams' arms went up for offside. I'm all for the big baby playing
drums in the centre circle at half time while we all sing in a club
    style.

Alright, 'cos I am sad etc I checked the phrases with subtitles. The
spellings according to text are IRANOO + IVAVOO. So much for the
    palindrome theory.

    Oi Saddo,

I thought we agreed on Saturday that the spelling was 'Uvavu' and that
the subtitles were wrong. Of course, we only have your word for the
    spelling...

I can also put my hand up to being sad enough to look at the subtitles on
Friday. Even sadder was the fact that I wasn't watching it on video on Saturday
morning after a heavy sesh the night before :-(

We can settle this argument once and for all as `Shooting Stars' will
be repeated from this Friday onwards at 6pm on BBC2, and I still say
    that it's `ERANU'....
