499.5Not too impressedAYOV27::FW_TEMP01J Hussey - Down in DunureFri Aug 25 1995 17:3814
When I (not quite) played from Minishant a couple of seasons I wasn't that
impressed with the standard of the Ayrshire amateur footie. There were a
few good players but apart from Heathside there weren't any decent teams.
Maybe the North Ayrshire sides are better.

My Minishant career consisted of 1 start and only 1 subs appearance longer
than 5 minutes in over half a season. I only started the one match due to
someone not turning up. Not really enough time to make an impression!

Now playing Sunday mornings in Ayr for Graham's (previously Dunure) and we won
our 1st game on Sunday 4-0 against Newton Arms. The standard seemed much
similar to the amateurs.

Here in the states, one of the largest amateur leagues is the New
England Over-the-Hill Soccer League fielding 144 teams this Fall. Six
divisions of six teams each, North and South Over-the-Hill (over-30),
five divisions each North and South Masters (over-40) and one division
    North and South Seniors (over-48).

I have been managing the Peperell (MA) OTH entry for several years. The
good news is we won our division last Spring to gain promotion to Div.
5 North. The bad news is I took my name off the roster before the
    start of the Spring season.

Also, Digital has several teams in the local Industrial League played
under the auspices of the Greater Boston Soccer League, including co-ed
teams. These teams play from June thru August with players from 16 to
    over 60.

499.8North Ayrshire TeamsMOVIES::DEANSMon Aug 28 1995 15:347
I must confirm that there are a few good teams in the North Ayrshire
leagues, namely Knockentiber, Winlinton Wolves (who knocked Heathside
out of the Ayshire last season), Shortlees and Clark Drive, who have
won the West of Scotland Cup twice in the last five years - that's two
visits to Hampden, although the second victory was after a replay at
    Beechwood Park, Auchinleck.

    Last nights highlight:

DEC park Engineers 3 Some company from Newbury 5
(Shows how much attention I was paying!)

They had the run of the game in the first half whilst we were still
trying to organise who would play in what position.

Second half we took the game to them, made a few tactical position
changes and kept ourselves in the game, nearly.

Goals from Andy, Pete and Colin gave us some hope, and a dipping
Yeboah-esque shot from myself just went over the bar.

Summary : We'll know what to do to beat them next time!

    efforts than the 'keeper.

I see Bonnyton have got off to a good start in their bid for the
Championship. However being an ex Bonnyton player my prediction is
that once they start proceeding to the later stages of cup competitions
there league performance will take a turn for the worse.
