everyone in the audience :-).
Chantelle deserves her own topic don't you think!

| Sorry lads, it seems that I've been threatened with *personnel* on
466.0 :-(. Since I don't know who my personnel officer is, it would
have been interesting for the moderators - who mostly are based on
mainland Europe - to find him/her. In respect to the note, I am now
deleting it and will *not* post any further notes concerning Chantelle
to the Digital Football Notesfile. If, however, you are still
interested in having them mailed onto you, I am prepared to set up a
mailing list with which I will forward any further poems to. That is
I presume still legal, is it?
It seems the Digital policy dictates that nothing should go into a
notesfile that may be seen to rock the boat. I value my position in
Digital and will not do anything to endanger it. So it looks like
it's good luck from me to this notesfile as I am no longer willing to
contribute to a forum which forces me to delete notes which I think
have both artistic and intellectual merit. I am no longer interested
in anything that may go on here!
Thanks,
James.

explanatory.

.16 - A very grumpy sounding note Dezzz (smiley things).
I think you only have to look at the previous replies to see that
there is definite support for James (and Chantelle) in this matter. The
everyday punters are creating a backlash against censorship. We are not
kids in here, we can stand the odd swearword (is that the problem ?
Because there are swearwords dotted about a lot of the other notes)
and can look beyond it.
In many ways I agree with you to be utterly honest. The Leeds Utd
poem WAS absolute rubbish which no amount of misspelt words could redeem,
however the Cantona one was really quite good. The argument is that we
should be allowed to see them and make up our own minds.
How about some sort of caveat in the note header like they do on TV
e.g. "The following note contains misspelt swearwords which some readers
may find distressing. Hit next reply to skip over it.". Would that be
acceptable ?
And another thing. There is at least one other Chantelle effort in
the Man Utd note. So why wasn't that set hidden too ?
Malc.

Malc,
Digital isn't obliged to lets us use their resources for our own
private interests. As Digital are responsible for the information kept
in their systems, they have defined a set of guidelines which outlines
the sorts of things which are/are not acceptable in notes. Swearing,
racism, allegations which could be construed as damaging to some party
etc are not acceptable. We may all be consenting adults and "able to
take it with a pinch of salt, but we are expected to have consideration
for others who may object to the use of foul language.
We have the privilege of using the notes. It is a great means of
having a wide area discussion with people of different backgrounds and
cultures. But it is also a privilege which can easily be removed. Lets
stick to the rules, keep the swearing / racism / sexism etc down and
hopefully we'll have the opportunity to continue our discussions for
many years to come. Don't be too hard on the moderators. You'd be
pretty narked if the conference got shut down 'cos they were allowing
unsuitable material into it.
