Andy,
if it's a discussion on who has failed to prove himself at
international level then this note is set to pass Mufc's.
I'll start with John Barnes.
Wrightys had , what 8/9 starts give the man a chance.
Gazzer.

450.2 | Ian who? | CHEFS::STRATFORDS | | Wed Oct 12 1994 15:03 | 16 |
| re .0
Who else is in the squad that could replace him. Ferdinand has not
proved any better at this level and by his own admission is not in good
form. Sheringham hasn't proved himself at all and like the rest of the
Spurs front-line only looks good because of Klinsmann. Personally I
would have liked Cole to have played but he's not fit. Therefore Wright
is the only logical choice. Plus the fact that he is a better player
than Ferdinand and Sheringham.
Looking at the team the spiv has picked, it is probably the best he
could do with the players available.
On the subject of not proving yourself, I nominate Chris Waddle. But
then he was never played in the right position was he so he couldn't
prove himself. At least that's what he claims.

| In response to the comment on John Barnes. Wow he really proved his
usefulness to the England side last night! Methinks that Mr B is on
borrowed time cos Le Tissier looks as if he will be far more
effective than Barnes at international level (plus the fact that he has
more scope for underachieving than Barnes ;-)

Confirmed....Terry Venables has lost the plot.
At least with the absence of Platt and Ince, Jamie Redknapp should get a
long overdue debut.

I'm beginning to think so myself. I can only imagine that he regards
Platt and Ince (best British player at present, IMO) as certainties.
Then again, I heard that he's recalled Salako. I remember Salako's
internatinal debut against Germany about 3/4 years ago. Not an easy
start, admittedly, but I remember thinking "no way is this man
international quality". The absence of Ferdinand is probably a little
more understandable; great player, but there's probably not space for
both him AND Shearer...and Shearer seems to have booked his place.
Can anyone oblige with the full squad?

450.11 | Slight on Judas Salako | YUPPY::PATEMAN | Cuore Sportivo | Wed Aug 30 1995 09:49 | 7 |
| Slight error, Salako played 4 games on the summer tour of Australia &
the Pacific, and was described as the find of the tour, and had Trevor
Brooking talking about the next #5m player. If memory serves the
Germany game was a return after his first knee op, and a precursor to
another 8 months out of the game.

| re: .11
I stand corrected. Anyway, he took on Brehme about 20 times and never
once got round him. He was also at fault with the German goal. Bringing
him back at this stage seems about as logical as giving another cap to
Andy Sinton.

then. I'm impressed that the new members of the squad don't drink, or
seem to anyuway, at Scribes West.

enlighten us !! BTW, I'm glad that Stone and Beresford are in the squad,
very handy players IMO, but how the hell Sheringham, Wise and Southgate
are in, and Le Tissier, Fowler and Draper aren't, I'll never know !!
