| even though andrew didn't want to answer the question--I will
gold was discovered in California in 1848-49 and many people from
around the world came to find it and they were called the '49 er's' and
so the american football team picked that name because the gold was
discovered relatively near San Francisco

ps
I am glad the americans laid down for the brits yesterday in order fpr
them to validate their new coach and players

| Rick,
so do you realise that since the 'so-called' world champions Brazil
could only beat the U.S by one goal and England scored two that means
that Romario and Co should hand-over the trophy now.

| to be perfectly honest I would charactorize the play of the brits as
almost south american in nature as they had many slow buildups and
demonstrated their superior ball skills. The scorer(Alan??) looked
world class to me and every bit as good as Baggio and Romario.
I think their coach will do wonders for them --Of course --only time
will tell

441.6 | Let's break the deadlock | STAR::CASSILY | | Fri Sep 09 1994 02:21 | 11 |

OK, so the Yanks played poorly. However, I was at Foxboro a year ago
and England played poorly. It seems that on goal differential, we are
2-2, with all goals being scored at home (no away goals to break the
deadlock). So, let's go for another match (maybe at a neutral venue),
and then let's slag off one another, depending on the outcome.
[There's no way the US should defeat England on a regular basis, but on
any given day, who knows?]

441.7 | Settle it my way | MASALA::AMILLAR | Exactement ce qu'il faut, Brian! | Fri Sep 09 1994 08:57 | 6 |

Since both teams are unable to score away from home, it would just be a
0-0 draw. Therefore, this should be settled on penalties, with England
taking their's at Wembley and the US taking their's at Foxboro. 8-))

PS Paul, Why can't I get in to the American Football conference at the
moment? I have been dying to read the post mortem on the Raiders game
with the Niners.
