| This season smells like CHELSEA to me. They have a very good side
along with a good manager. After last season they also have the
confidence to see that they are able to go far after getting to the FA
cup final. The team also have a European campaign to look forward too,
and as we all know there's nothing raises your game quite like a run
around Europe.
Rangers will win the league again in Scotland, not because they're
brilliant or anything but rather just because no-one else can.
Unfortunately I can't see them getting anywhere in the Champions
League this time which is a real shame because their games create
lots of passion at least.
A word about transfers now since many people have commented on the
silly figures being offered for players with only a couple of years
left in their careers. Well in my opinion it's all down to the 'three
foreigners' rule which prices up your local players and prices down
international transfers. If you look at the sums for local transfers
now compared to international ones you see that it's all out of
proportion with the perceived ability of the player. As an example
look at the Rangers transfer of Boli or the Munich transfer of Papin.
These are players from a European cup winning team and arguably two of
the best in Europe in their respective roles. Then look at some of the
fees for local English transfers, for players who have never crossed
the channel and you'll agree that it's out of control. OK so the 80's
Liverpool team without any Englishmen was a bit much but at least a
players value was more indicative of his ability, I can remeber when I
was a boy and used to play on a windy field in Northern Scotland and my
dad used to say to me that transfers between............

Perhaps he has contacts at the FA, and knows that the arbitrators will
decide that exclusion from the FA Cup is too harsh a penalty, and the FA
will "reluctantly" agree because a) they're not penalising or even chasing
any other club with any of the vigour they applied to Spurs, and b) they
(and their new sponsors) quite fancy seeing this ace Spurs squad gracing
their competition after all.
Or then again, perhaps not.

I wonder what odds you could get on Spurs winning the FA cup at the moment?
You can imagine the queue of FA officials placing bets at astronomical odds
before allowing the arbitrators to persuade them to allow Spurs back into the frame.

It had to go to extra-time though. Then Masinga had to ruin it by
scoring a hat-trick (took a Stanley knife to a rabbit?? Ed).

after extra time, Wolves won 4-3 on penalties
With 15 secs of extra time remaining, Wednesday's Mark Bright had only
the Wolves keeper to beat but his volley went well over. Wednesday went
first in the penalty shoot-out and led 3-0 after Wolves had missed their
first two, but then Andy Pearce, Bart-Williams and Waddle all missed
whilst Wolves converted their next 4 kicks to snatch a 4-3 win.
