When do the qualifying games start and what is the draw?

Hungary should surely start coming back from the rubbish they were in
the WC qualifiers. I predict they'll either win this group or come
    last.

Sweden should have wrapped this one up in the first half when we were
in the lead and Dahlin missed at least three clear opportunities. In
the second half Switzerland were clearly on top and in the end it was a
    fair result.

Great game for the neutral. Unfortunately I'm not. Congratulations
    Switzerland.

Next time Sweden v Hungary mid November. A win is a must.

Tonight Sweden take on Hungary at Rsunda.

Tommy Svensson has announced a line-up that is best described as 4-2-4.
Genius or Hybris? We'll see. Still, with Ljung and Ingesson injured
they are our best 11 available (or should I say our best 10 plus a
    village fool impersonating a goal-keeper)

Well, won't you consider Brolin to be an attacking midfielder? I noticed he
    was a good tackler too.

Anyway, very nice line-up indeed. You guys have a good team for at
least 2 years. They've been playing together for a long time and have
shared successes = they believe in themselves.

Good luck, I like your style -

I guess you're right. The difference this time really is that the
defensive minded Ingesson has been replaced with Henrik Larsson, who is
essentially a forward. It will be interesting to see whether Thern and
Schwarz can hold together the team with so much force going forward. I
    think it's possible.

Pointless statistic: Sweden have never lost a game in which both
Schwarz and Thern have played the full 90 minutes in mid-field
    together.

(At the bottom of this long entry is the current standing & schedule
    of this group)

And where are the comments from Stefan Persson ?
OK, I don't want to be nasty, it's only that I have had to read a lot
of crap about the Norwegian team the last few years.

** Even if Norway won their group, qualifying for the World
       Championship last year:

    Norway 10 7 2 1 25 - 5 16 ( 1)
    Netherland 10 6 3 1 29 - 9 15 ( 0)
    England 10 5 3 2 26 - 9 13 (-2)
    Poland 10 3 2 5 10 - 15 8 (-7)
    Turkey 10 3 1 6 11 - 19 7 (-8)
    San Marino 10 0 1 9 2 - 46 1 (-14)

    Norway and Netherland qualified.

** Even if we are leading our group for the European Championship:

    Norway 7 6 1 0 16 - 1 19 ( 2)
    Netherlands 7 3 2 2 15 - 5 11 (-2)
    Czech Republic 6 3 2 1 13 - 5 11 (-1)
    Byelorussia 6 2 1 3 6 - 10 7 (-5)
    Luxembourg 7 2 0 5 2 - 18 6 (-6)
    Malta 7 0 2 5 2 - 15 2 (-8)

** Stefan's only good point now is that Norway played crap during
the World Championship last year, with the results:

    Norway - Mexico	1 - 0
    Norway - Italy	0 - 1
    Ireland - Norway	0 - 0

All too few goals, totally different from our results during the two
    (World and European) qualifications.

And don't misunderstand me, I really like Sweden, have had some wonderful
holidays there, this is just my attempt to try stop the Swedish
rubbish about Norwegian football. We don't have the best players in the
world (except for our girls, who recently became World Champions -
in Sweden), but we have a GREAT trainer and BUNCH of good players that
are really enthustiastic about playing for Norway.

The following is only some examples of the swedish rubbish, and I have
been mostly silent up to this. After Sweden lost two points against
Iceland I just HAD to do something ... sorry, Stefan ;-)

OK, let's be serious for a while:

Sweden are suffering from the expected hang-over after a successful
tournament. It happens to everybody (like Denmark post-92), and we
would have wished it to not last so long, but there's not a lot we can
    do about it.

The reason why I started picking on Norway was that they were
*extremely* hyped-up after beating the mighty England in the WC
qualifiers. I was pointing out a few aspects (in my own little way) on
how to put that particular feat in perspective. The actual World Cup
showed that Norway were no way near as good as they thought. Not only
were the results poor, the quality of the Football played was mercilessly
slagged by everybody (not least in this conference, and by others than
    me)

As for recent events, it now looks like a good possibility that Norway
will qualify again, but until then, do you really expect anybody to get
impressed by you beating Luxembourg? As far as I can remember, you
have only played the minnows of the group (+ Holland at home, a boring
draw). Congratulations for beating the minnows, the structure of
European qualifiers nowadays requires that you win those games, and it
seems that Norway have done that well. The fact that Holland and the
Czechs (and we) have screwed up doesn't make Norway any better, though.

Unfortunately my work situation prevents me from contributing to (or
reading) Football notes nowadays, therefore I shall refrain from
any more comment on the matter until there are new facts to consider,
like Norway beating any qualified opposition away from home. That should
    take a few years.

    cheers,

    	Stefan

Beating Poland 3 - 0 in Poland may be a fact to consider ?

his is results for Norway the last few years (all the matches outside
    Norway)

    92.10.07: San Marino - Norway 0 - 2
    92.10.14: England - Norway 1 - 1
    93.06.09: Netherland - Norway 0 - 0
    93.10.13: Poland - Norway 0 - 3
    93.11.10: Turkey - Norway 2 - 1
    94.11.16: Byelorussia - Norway 0 - 4
    94.12.14: Malta - Norway 0 - 1
    95.03.29: Luxembourg - Norway 0 - 2

Some results from the last month may show that the gap between
the countries is getting closer. So as you say, there is not as
easy to beat the weaker teams at home as it was before:

    95.06.01: Sweden - Iceland 1 - 1
    95.06.03: Liechtenstein - Ireland 0 - 0
    95.06.07: Byelorussia - Netherlands 1 - 0
    95.06.07: Luxembourg - Czech Republic 1 - 0
