301.1Are back-passes to goal-keeper allowed?UKARC1::WOOD_JJohn Wood @UCG, Alpha/VMS portingThu Jun 03 1993 10:023
Reading the rules for the 5-a-side tournament, it says nothing about back-passes
to goalkeepers, other than normal FA rules apply. So back-passes to the
goal-keeper are not allowed, right?
301.2Will it really matter ??SUBURB::GROOMNBring back Poll TaxThu Jun 03 1993 12:038

    The back pass to the keeper in 5-a-side is not so significant as the
    opposition attacker cannot attack the keeper in the area so all he has
    to do is dribble it and get rid of it in his own time. The keeper must
    not pick it up I guess.

    The fact that attackers cannot attack the keeper makes the back pass to
    the keeper even more significant as a time wasting mechanism.

> The keeper must not pick it up I guess.

    In many 5-a-side leagues, goalkeepers are not allowed to deliberately
    kick the ball out of their area. So, if they cannot pick it up or kick
    it, what then ?

301.4PLUNDR::MORANTripple ripple truffle shufflerThu Jun 03 1993 13:427

    THe 5 aside league I played in, would only disallow a backpass from a
    player if he had received the ball directly from the keeper in the
    first place. Also, the keeper could only release the ball via an under
    arm throw out.

    I will be there.

    I'll be playing for B.A. x, y or z.

    The final will be between the ringers and U.T.N.B.F.C.

    U.T.N.B.F.C. will win without losing a game.

    See you Saturday,

301.6back-pass ruleUKARC1::WOOD_JJohn Wood @UCG, Alpha/VMS portingThu Jun 03 1993 17:219
Just spoke to one of Saturday's referees. As well as promising him loads of
money for my team to do well, he clarified the back-pass rule.

  After the keeper has rolled the ball out, it must be touched by two
  outfield players before the keeper has the ball passed back. The penalty
  for infringement is a free kick.

I assume that if the keeper rolled the ball to the opposition, that they could
shoot straight away.

    Despite drawing with the eventual winners, my team, as predicted, got
    nowhere as usual.

    However, congrats to the winners. A good day it was to.

    Well, we wuz robbed. Every year is the same !.

    This year we lost 0-1 to UTBNB. FC, lost in the semis to them last year
    on penalties.

    This year we lost to FRO in the quarters.

    Some slightly dubious decisions were to be seen. One I can't understand
    is when a keeper attempts to stop the ball going miles behind him after
    the attacker has blasted it over the keepers head- who has to jump to
    try and slow it down. Why should this be a corner ? It is afterall
    already yards over head height ?. Anyway a great day, a lovely BBQ,
    great sunshine..........

    Made my peace with little Stuart from UTBNB . FC as well :-)
    Congrats to them winning the final.

    Tony Absolom - we should have said Hi to each other.

    Thanks for the vote of confidence Loz Jolly, maybe next year .

    Gary. ( Ringers )

    ps,. for those who were asking - 'Ringers' are family and friends who
           all work for Hoskyns.

    I was the goalie who was moaning about the gorilla with the metal studs
    on. He was a right prick.

    However, I must say that you undoubtedly win top prize for " Coolest
    Goalie Shorts".

    Tony

    It was against you lot that my popularity sank to an all-time low after
    I conceded four. Thank-you very much. 8*>

    Tony,

        Im sure he would appreciate your feelings for him !. But lets be
    honest about it. - Just because you wear studs doesn't mean that you
    are deliberatly setting out to hurt someone does it ?. The referees
    didn't confirm or didn't rule out the wearing of studs before the
    games because I asked them. It was down to their discretion as I think
    I said on the pitch. The tackle was just as it was - a tackle - very
    firm I agree, but Rory (Gorilla as you put it) is a very hard/firm
    player. Five aside/ eleven a side, kick about with a tin can, he is
    firm in his challenges. There is nothing wrong with that. I know that
    a lot of people there on Saturday don't play regular football and may
    be intimidated by him - hell thats why I play him :-). On the follow
    up to that - I agree that Rory was OOO when he called your boy a
    Chicken Sh*t wimp, but your boy didn't need to kick out like he did.
    It was the heat of the moment. I can say that your player was lucky not
    to be pushing up daiseys now though !, not only is Rory good with his
    feet, he can box a bit aswel. :-).

    Anyhow, I didn't envy you sitting in the opposite goal, My brother has
    a mean left and right boot don't he ?. He plays a bit aswel. He also
    boxes. ( Tony is a keen boxing enthsiast )

    Glad you appreciated the shorts.

    How bout a game between your local side and my works team ?.
    ( Which doesn't include Gorilla or my Bro)

    Best wishes Tony.

    I was kind of volunteered into writing an article on the tournament by
    Linda on Saturday, I brought it on myself. "Why is there never any
    write-up of the tourny in Digital Today?" say's I "Surely it would
    generate a bit of interest and entusiasm for the next one if the results's
    and a little article was written". "Good idea" say's she "Mail me with
    your report and I'll see what I can do".

    If anyone who attended would like to provide any material I would
    appreciate it, after all I was playing too and didn't get to see many
    other games until the play-offs and I'm no journalist.

    If you would like to offer anything, mail me: Lawrence Jolly@wlc or
    PEKING::JOLLYL.

    Nice to see some of you noters on Saturday, sorry I didn't get to caht
