| The Autoglass Trophy is the League Associate Members Cup, open to all
2nd and 3rd division clubs (previously known as the Sherpa Van Cup and
the Frieght-Rover Cup).

| Apparently, Scunthorpe scored against Rotherham, but Lincoln didn't, so that
was enough to get them through. In most Cup competitions you progress by
beating the opposition - in this one it's enough to draw - as long as you
score against Rotherham!

| Is the first round of this competition a round robin type thing then?
Or is it just if you've scored against Rotherham at some point in the last few
years you get to go through to the next round?
Perhaps they should have something like that in the world cup rather than settle
it on penalties: "Scotland 1: Germany 1, Scotland qualify because although
neither team has ever actually scored against Rotherham, Ally McCoist did go
shopping there once." Seems fair and equitable to me.

know what it was but i'm sure it didn't mention Rotherham.

As far as I know there are 3 teams in each group with 2 to qualify. I
guess both sides lost to Rotherham and both by the same margin but
obviously Lincoln didn't score and were knocked out on goals scored.
eg
Rotherham 7 Scunthorpe 1
Rotherham 6 Lincoln 0
Lincoln go out on goals scored. Who cares anyway.

note rather than go into the Arsenal note and REALLy upset someone!!

| I stubbornly refuse to believe that I am the only one interested in this mighty
cup. I think you're all just embarrassed to admit that you support Shrewsbury,
so, contrary to popular demand, here are the results of last night's Autoglass
Trophy matches (drum roll):
Carlisle 2 Hartlepool 0 Att. 859
Fulham 2 Leyton Orient 2 Att. 1276
Huddersfield 5 Halifax 0 Att. 1236
Hull 2 Doncaster 1 Att. 1716
Stockport 2 Chester 0 Att. 2064
Wrexham 0 Stoke 2 Att. 3974
Don't bother to thank me. 8-)

You're not alone Mike, I went to see Leyton play Gillingham a couple of weeks
ago when I was in London, I saw 5 goals (some real nice onces) and I paid
a lot less than I paid at Stamford Bridge

Surely can't have been as dull as the abject tedium that has been Match of the

| Mike,
Can you give us an update ? Second round games, draw etc.
I'd also like to offer my support to your campaign for real football,
as would the 859 people who turned up to watch Carlisle v Hartlepool
Andy.

My interest waned when Donny lost 3-0 to Huddersfield in the second round.
I'll seek out the results and post them Monday.
"now we can concentrate on the league..." (ahem)

| Did anyone see the final on Saturday??
I reckon The Arse & Wednesday teams should be forced to sit and watch this as a
lesson in how a Cup final should be played. Port Vale & Stockport produced an
excellent match in which Port Vale ran out 2 - 1 winners.
The first half was all Port Vale, with Bernie Slaven ( Ex. Boro ) running the
midfield. He threaded an inch perfect pass though the defense for Kerr to score
the opener, and then scored the 2nd goal himself, after a great build up.
Stockport came back into the game in the second half, and I don't think I've ever
heard such a noise at Wembley, coming from the Stockport fans in the 5 minutes
preceding the Stockport goal.
Vale hung on (just) in the last 15 minutes to win the Trophy in their first
appearance at Wembley.
The game just goes to prove that entertaining and skillful football is not just
restricted to the top filght. Well done to both teams.
I feel sorry for Stockport though. Last year they got to the Autoglass final, and
the 3rd division play-off final, and lost them both.
Port Vale play West Brom, in the play-off final on Sunday. If saturday has
anything to go by then it should be a cracker.

| The first matches in the first round were played last night. can't remember much
except that Donny beat Hull City in Hull 2-0. Goals from Lee Thew and Graeme
Jones, and yet another clean sheet. Maybe I'm dreaming..... 8-)
