273.0. "FIFA WORLD INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP" by AKOCOA::KNIPSTEIN () Wed Nov 25 1992 16:20

    I've seen a couple of mentions the last few days in USA TODAY of the
    FIFA World Indoor Championship which is being played in Hong Kong.

    The U.S. has made the second round and is grouped with Argentina,
    Brazil and the Netherlands. The other second round group consists of
    Iran, Belgium, Spain and Poland.

    The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, Nov 27, with the championship
    and 3rd place games being played on the 28th.

    Has anyone else seen anything on this? I had seen that the U.S. had
    beaten Russia 8-3 and China 7-1 in first round matches, but no other
    scores for any other teams. Were all the European countries entered?
    What about any teams from the U.K.?

    Also according to the schedule I saw the U.S. was to have played Brazil
    on Monday and the Netherlands yesterday, but I haven't seen any scores.

273.5Have the rules changed?LARVAE::LUND_YATESMINE'S A PINTMon Dec 07 1992 13:4612
    I saw a couple of clips of the final over the weekend and was amazed to
    see people scoring from about 3 feet from goal and the ball flying
    through the air at twice the height of the tallest player on the pitch.

    My understanding of the rules (as played in the UK National 5-a-side
    tournament) is that the ball is not to go any higher than shoulder
    height and that no-one apart from the goalkeeper is allowed in the "D".

    Have the rules been changed? If so, it could open up our Tuesday night
    games a treat!
