Hello World,

we are students of computer science at the University of Hamburg. 
There we are participating in a seminar held by the Human Computer 
Interaction Group on "Social and technical aspects of electronic communication"

As a part of this seminar we will talk about "Conferences, Bulletin Boards and
Mailboxes". 

To give you an idea of what our 1-hour-presentation will contain, here is a 
rough overview:
	
	1. Introduction
		What is a conference, bulletin board, mailbox ?
		How do these methods differ from electronic mail ?
	2. Example of a conferencing tool {Notes and a similar HP-tool}
		How to use them 
		{i.e. getting access, writing, moderating, rules ...}
	3. Reasons for using conferencing tools
		Chatting, information sharing, getting help, announcing,
		global village etc.
	4. Special communication rules and behaviour in contrast to 
	   face-to-face communication
		flaming, smilies, irrelevancy of social status 
	5. Comparison of electronic conferencing, mailing and face-to-face
	   meeting

For points 3,4 and 5 we are interested in your opinions and experiences.
Write about whatever comes to your mind. We will not cite any note entry
or mail. We only want to learn about your impressions and enlarge our view.

Here's a list of questions to give you an idea of what we are interested in:

- Advantages and Disadvantages of Notes as a media for communication
- Methods of participation (are you a read-only noter? why? why not?)
- Reasons for noting and expected results
- Friendships and social relationships developed via notes
- Moderator's activities 
- Special noting conventions and behaviour
