234.0. "Scotland Outstanding, Donkeyhype last" by IRNBRU::SHIELDS (Press KP7 for a frontal lobotomy) Fri Jun 19 1992 10:02

Scotland finished their Euro 92 campaign with an outstanding victory
over the CIS, a team who had not been betaen throughout the qualifying or
tournament so far . A superd 3:0 victory clinched fifth place ahead
of some great teams like France and CIS.

Whats more Donkeyhype UTD ended up finishing last in the tournament,

    again.

To all the noters who predicted a Donkeyhype victory in Euro 92, no
goals for Scotland, no points for Scoland ( about 95% of Euro
prediction note ) the command is

    	NOTES > EXTRACT / EAT

Scotland showed that pride, passion and sprit were essential in the
modern international game, and a few other things as well like ability,
skill .... all of which seems to have deserted Donkeyhype fatboolers,
    crocketers.blah blah blah....

Cannot wait to see Saint'n' Greasy on Sat'day.

Hark back to the chants from last night's game...

.... One Tomas Brolin..there's only one Tomas Brolin..

    	and to the same tune....

More goals than England, we've scored more goals than
    England....

    Hold it......

news flash just in from Sweden......uefa have decided that Scotland
although finishing 5th ?? have infact morally won the tournament
for being just outstandingly brave and err outstanding brave and for
err.. for scoring more goals than England who now have to change their
    name to Donkeybollocks forever more......extraordinary....

..oh and whats this...it looks like England are going to have to give
BACK the last two triple-crown victories and forfeit the semi-final
win against Scotland...which also means another moral victory, this
time in the Rugby, because it would have meant an open flowing final
    with Scotland winning 71-70...

..oh and another report in from Beirut it's looks like English
fans have gone on the rampage joining up with she-ite militia spreading
mayhem with small-arms and rocket launchers...typical english..

    Hmmmm,

England and Scotland squabbling over who did better in Sweden is a bit
like Everton and Spurs fans arguing who was more successful in the
    first division last season.

The answer, of course, is that both failed, only England more so.

Moreso meaning, they played without guts, mostly without a clue
and were genuinely poor. Whereas Scotland went on the rampage,
thrilled the fans, gained respect from their opponents and
    showed genuine class.

234.7You will listen to the Donkeyhype press...IRNBRU::SHIELDSPress KP7 for a frontal lobotomyFri Jun 19 1992 14:5628
The point of this note is to remind all the FEB's and their little
press men how Scotland were only therr to make up the numbers, exit having
won no games and scoring no goals. Meanwhile Donkeyhype UTD would
sweep to victory "reminiscent of the great 1966 blah blah chunder"
How often do you hear that from an English commentator during an
English international be it fitba, horsejumping, tiddlywinks .... !

To exit the tournament from the group of certain death after being
narrowly defeated the European & World champs and going down in
history as the only team to ever beat the CIS ( has a goood ring to it
that one) and to finish 5th is a great achievment for a small nation.

At time like this I'm reminded of Des Lynam flashing up the England's
group table and how it would finish if the half time scores remained.
Absolutley priceless to think about it now.

We are justifyably proud of our achievement even if it only merits a 10
second slot after the Holland Germany game on the 10 o'clock news.
Imagine the hour long special extended, sattelite linkup , brown nose
Lineker news show if Donkeyhype had achieved what we ahd done. If the
English press are not going to celebrate it WE ARE !!

Gloating at the Donkey's come naturally at time like these, its part of
    the game....

group that either didny have to qualify or Donkeyhype had beaten them 2
    months earlier.

How early do yo think they will be eliminated from the next

FWIW Scotland's fans were entertained watching their team play against
the World Champions, the European champions and the Runners_up in the
    last Euro Championships.

England might have had less attractive opponents, but it doesn't excuse
the lack of entertainment in their games.

Look, this is all getting just a little bit ridiculous. I don't think
anyone is likely to dispute that England were dismal and almost
certainly the worst team in the tournament; what I find a little harder
to accept is that Scotland were an outstanding success and came home
more than satisfied with their achievements. Surely they went to Sweden
at least believing they could reach the semis; true enough, they did
not have much luck against Holland and Germany, but the simple fact is
that they didn't get past the first round. How that can be called a
    "successful" tournament is beyond me.

The SFA have said that the game will not be on telly. However this may be a ploy
to ensure that the tickets are all sold although I don't think so.

Apparently, there are still 10,000 tickets left. Hampden only has a
capacity of 37,000 (?) so its some national stadium, eh? I s'pose its
what they deserve. Crap team, crap ground.

234.18Why are we in this note ?AYOV29::MTHEODORESONIt's grim up northWed Aug 16 1995 13:0018
There you go again Stuart spoiling for a fight. It said on the
radio last night that there were only 2000 tickets left. The match
highlights will be on late btw. Hampden is a very nice ground and will
be even better in the Spring when they demolish the old main stand and
put up a spanking new one increasing the capacity to around 50,000.

We could say that the only way your disgusting mob could get into
this competition would be to host the tournament but it's a cheap shot.
Oh what the hell, we'll say it anyway ...

And also are you going to return the 1966 World Cup to West Germany
now that it has been clinically proven that you cheated ?

    Malc.

Cryptic PS: I think the Everton bid has succeeded ...

Moi? Argumentative? You mistake me for someone else...

The 10,000 figure was a quote from Jim Whossisname, the Secretary of
    the SFA.

As for handing back the World Cup, only if Argentina do for 1986...
