| I happened to be in London for a couple of days last week and arranged
to meet Mike McCabe for a local wine-sampling session. He kindly
organised a monster noters' gathering out of the occasion in "The
Oarsman", New Oxford St..
When I arrived a bit late, I found that I doubled the Gooner attendance
which in turn was double the number of Flatulent Eagles present. In spite
of this, the F.E. struggled manfully to stay awake throughout the evening.
I had never met a denizen of Selhurst Park before so it took a while to
get used to conversing with someone who was constantly gazing skyward,
looking for the ball. ;-)
The jollity of the noters was considerably enhanced by the anxiety
then despair of the Manc fan barman listening to the radio commentary
on the 'Ammers match. Did we sympathise?
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would like to thank Mr McCabe for
organising it; Messrs Theakston for organising the following day's
hangover and Mr Panes for organising an impromptu tour of the bar which
started at one end and by the close of the evening was almost in the
ladies' toilet at the other end.

I am up in the Livingston office w/c 11th May, so are there any Scots
noters who would like to get together for a dram or two, discussing
that there is only one team in Glasgow, Manchester etc....

Unfortunately, I had to go somewhere else, but I returned to the
pub later. Tommy, the landlord of the pub, is, as you rightly pointed out
a M.U fan and has been to the Palace with me to see his lot. When
I returned to the pub, I genuinely did not know the result. He, of
course, thought I was taking the mick ( no pun intended ). Surprisingly
he didn't buy me a beer that night.
Anyway it was good meeting you, Peter, and a relief to find out that not
all Arse fans are like Mike McGrub.
Cheers,
Stuart

Stuart,
I see you've obviously been groomed by Bryan (Captain Marvel) Robson
when it comes to end of evening entertainment.

Good one Barry. I haven't laughed so much since Leeds' winner on
Sunday. Shame you couldn't make last week's affair but I hope we can
finally meet up at some future Noters' do or at some licensed
establishment near Highbury. I recall we originally planned to meet at
the Moat House Hotel in Liverpool before a certain match in 1989 which
was prevented by you being stuck on the motorway and we still haven't
met!

Rob Anderson from Enterprise House (mainly seen in the Notts County
topic) is here in Galway on a course. We're meeting for a drink
tomorrow night and he'd like to meet a few other noters. We'll be in
Annie Lee's pub from 9pm on. Mail me if you need directions. If you
intend coming later please mail me also as we may move on.
Gary.
