163.0. "The Quality Assurance Note" by ARRODS::SWANSON () Fri Mar 27 1992 17:23

Hello,

As I'm off today, so I can happily write this note, and I won't be around
for any slagging off which I receive as a consequence.

I would just like to thank various contributors to this notes conference
for the entertainment value and for the up to date highly informative
information which can be gathered from it. As far as general interest
conferences go it is subscribed to on the whole by well informed people
who have a genuine interest in the subject (unlike some other conferences
which seem to be full of "experts on nothing at all") and is highly adictive.

However!!!

Over the past year or so I have noticed a marked deterioration in the
overall quality of notes. There are still many very good notes, but its
just a pain having to plough through increasing amount of cr*p in order
to find them.

Examples of this are:

1 Endless streams of "one liners" between people, whose ego won't allow
them to stop, trying to score points off each other in public

2 Numerous notes reading for example "Mancs to stuff <insert name here>
5-0!!!" followed by "<insert name here> to stuff Mancs/Scousers 8-0"

3 General increased levels of bigotry and intolerance between rival
points of view.

Now I know there'll be replies saying never mind, its all just a wind up
and a bit of fun/banter, but I beg to differ. Some of it is fun and
amusing I'll grant you, and but much of it is carried out by a small
clique who no doubt find it amusing, but personally I think its all a bit
pathetic.

I have to say that these behaviours are (with the exception of the odd
Celtic - Rangers interchange) more or less confined to the supporters of
a few clubs in the English first division. So come on lads, cut the crap
out, and lets see the standard of the conference dedicated to the world's
game, back high again.

Remember the days of Chris Swiffen and Walt Gallagher? You may not have
agreed with everything they said but at least they made their point in a
constructive way without dragging personalities into it.

OK that's it.

All the best and I'll try to keep in touch with various noters who I know
personally.

Cheers,

Dave

PS As I said the standard of this conference is very high despite what I
said above, now if you really want to read some garbage, checkout

  re .0

Well said that man. Maybe your note might bring a few red faces
  to match the red shirts.

The best of luck Dave in your new career and all the best to T'Blades -
a lot of clubs will want them to stay in the top flight. 'cos we need
  the points.

  Cheers,

  Stuart

Good luck, Dave. Sorry I couldn't make the booze up last night. Re .0
    - I totally agree. I was out of the office on a course Monday to
Thursday this week and logged into Football Notes at lunch-time today.
    I think I had 338 unseen. After reading about 100, mainly 32 and 34, I
gave up. Apart from a Liverpool v Tottenham match report there was
nothing else worth reading, it was just puerile drivel.

    Ian,

Thanks for the wishes, as for the targets of the comments, its not
black and white, everybody some good notes and some bad ones. Your
Liverpool Tottenham match report Mike referred to was excellent. Its
just a trend I've sensed towards more of what I described in .0.

Anyway, who am I to judge, its only my opinion, maybe prople disagree
and like it the way it is but there you go.

    Anyway sob..sob.. 4.5 years later I'm off.

    My closing predictions:

    League Chapms: Manchester United
    Runners Up: Leeds
    Third: Sheffield Wed.

    FA Cup: Liverpool

Relegated: Notts. Co., Luton and West Ham

    Fourth Bottom: Spurs

    See Y'all

Talking of reading through loads and getting nothing; I tried, I
really tried but I just got bored and probably hit next new note once
to often. Anyway what was the score in the friendly internationals
involving Scotland and England last week?

Re .0; well said that man! Re ef92; Abso-bl**dy-lutely!
