| They shouldn't play at Wembley anyway. Hampden would be better, the
fans get behind their team alot more up there. If England haven't
scored after 15 mins at Wembley they get the slow handclap.
Here's a start;
Goalkeeper; Southall.

| Re .2,
Martin - surely Mike Hooper (Eng) in goal and Mark Walters (eng) in
midfield. (instead of Platt)
I can tell you're not quite back into the swing of things yet.

No. The IOC regards the United Kingdom as a single country.

I have only included the English players that I would see as good
enough to represent a UK team....Only reason I have replaced Southall
with Seaman is I believe that Southall is now past his best (although
still probably as good as Seaman) whereas Seaman is still improving.
Anyone like to give some Scottish/Welsh/Northern Irish players
that would fit into this team of mine.
Seaman (England)
Parker (England)
???????? Pallister ?????? Pearce
(England) (England)
Gascoigne (England)
Platt ?????? ???????
(England)
Lineker
(England)

Hi Kevin,
if Seamen's that good - how come he can't even get into the England
team ?

On the subject of Scottish players, I would pick Paul McStay to
play in the midfield. He has been a class player north of the
border now for several seasons playing in a "transitional" Celtic
team, and recently has looked *very* good. Beats me why the big
boys in England haven't tried to sign him up...I'd love to see him
in United's midfield 8-)
Also Gary McAlistair is getting better and better for Leeds and has
had a couple of good games for Scotland recently so I'd pick him as
a gifted "workhorse/ballwinner.
I'd probably choose Southall (WAL) in goal.
Defence: Nicol (SCO), Walker (ENG), Parker (ENG), Pearce (ENG)
Midfield: McStay (SCO), Gascoigne (ENG), Platt (ENG), McAlistair(SCO)
Forwards: of Lineker (ENG), Hughes (WAL)
Andy.

118.11 | at last - its here!!! | COMICS::HAWLEY | slam the doors and wedge them | Fri Nov 15 1991 13:31 | 26 |
| ok, heres mine at last (and after much deliberation)...
(well, 5 mins)
1. Southall WALES (very popular so far i see)
2. Gough SCOTLAND (dont know much about him)
3. Pearce ENGLAND (a loony but strong)
4. Walker ENGLAND (Liverpool should buy him)
5. Nicol SCOTLAND (brilliant when on form)
6. Platt ENGLAND (remember Belgium?)
7. Hughes WALES (cos i like the 4-3-3 formation)
8. McStay SCOTLAND (well talented)
9. Rush WALES (what can one say)
10.Lineker ENGLAND (can pick up what TGRush leaves)
11.Barnes ENGLAND (god)
12.Taggart N.IRELAND (oooh Gerry Gerry! - dont ask!)
14.Gascoigne ENGLAND (not bad i suppose)
Gerry Taggart is in there cos hes the only Northern Ireland player i know,
cos he plays for ailing Barnsley.
as for the rest, i managed to keep the number of English players down
to 5 in the first 11...
Ian.

| re .1 - Don't bother
re many notes - What is Platt doing in the line up. Apparently he has
been performing badly in Italy and was poor on Wednesday night versus
the Poles. At the moment he is surviving on reputation and the fact
that Taylor used to manage him at Villa

| Paul,I believe Seaman should be playing for England & believe
(even though he is a good keeper) that Woods is only getting into the
side now because he had been waiting so long for Shilton to step down.
Thanks for all the replies....my revised team would be as follows:
Seaman (England)
Parker (England)
?????? Pallister Walker(How could I Pearce
(England) (England)(forget the best) (England)
Gascoigne (England)
Platt or MCClelland Mcstay
(England) (N.Ireland??) (Scotland)
Lineker (England)
Hughes (Wales)
or
Smith (England)
Apologies to any Scots,Welsh or N.Irish contributors.the only
reason there are so many English in the line up is because they are
the only ones I really know anything about.
Apologies also for forgetting Des Walker. If either of the central
defensive positions are up for grabs,it would probably be Pallister's.
Howzabout Parker at Right back,Walker at sweeper & A.N. Other in the
central defensive position.
Unsure about the centre forward position as I have always felt that
Mark Hughes would be an asset to any International side. However,Alan
Smith currently (no Arsenal bias involved) to me looks like the best
target man in the U.K.& I believe Lineker would benefit greatly feeding
off him.
I believe that Platt can be a very good ball winner if he is
utilised correctly. However, that is another position that could probably
do with looking at more closely.
Again,it is only my tuppence worth but does anyone else have any
input to my suggestion/replacements for who I have suggested???
Kevin
